Also from the story

Mr. Harrison said CN’s “2010 Vision” strategy capitalizes on its extensive North American network and expansion plans such as new container service in mid-2007 that will transport Asian goods arriving at the Port of Prince Rupert in northwestern British Columbia.

I grew up near there. This is some of the most spectacalur mountain and river country on the planet, it would be great to model. I am at the moment doing another area [:)] Maybe later.

Very cool.

Happy Railroading.[swg][swg]

i doubt BNSF would sell their railway, i hope not.

I also doubt BNSF would be willing to have it’s HQ in Canada.
The public offering of CN was allowed by the Government of Canada with stipulations.

A main one was that CN head office is to remain in Canada.

I know they were willing to do this before, but that was a few years ago.

Gordon: You could still do this merger and create a new holding company domiciled in the US while the CN subsidiary still had its HQ in Canada. You could also keep a minority stake of CN listed on the TSE and NYSE while Holdco would list on the NYSE.
Any deal like this would be a good food fight. Just like the battle for Conrail. CSX thought they had that one wrapped up but David Goode was not about to let that get away without NS getting the old Pennsy routes.
UP would put up a good battle and any resulting merger would be an operating & integration nightmare.
Just my thoughts, but I was the S&P rail analyst at the time and got a ring side seat!

When you start seeing CN units MU’ed with BNSF daily in LA and Tehachapi areas, you realize that this merger is still in the making like they proposed over two years ago when it was shot down at least for the eighteen month cooling off period.

What would it be called??? The Canadian American National Northern???.

American Canadian Northern and New Orleans.

Their motto::: North, Really North, East and West and all the way to the Gulf

One has a wedge and the other one stripes for a logo. There is probably a name there but I don’t have it today.

If it was the Canadian Pacific, they could merge with the Union Pacific without much fuss. The Union Pacifc almost always merges the last name of the mergeing company into their name to create the new name.

Katy was an exception along with the C&NW to the name solution.

.

For some reason I could see it the other way around.

Very interesting story though

How about just plain old “North American Rail”?

I don’t like the thought of anything here…
Matthew

i don’t hink it would by then because it wouldn’t make since after bnsf expanding also brand new paint jobs on cars and engines. IF CN wanted to merge they should work there way up to it by buying the little guys out first. or KCS.

I don’t realy care if the CN goes into the BNSF,as long as the BNSF retains their true BNSF Railway name.

Declare a winner and start over!
