CNJ early caboose color (like from the late1930's thru the 1940's)?

I just bought an Atlas “Central of New Jersey” 4-window caboose. It seems to be done up in one of their later paint schemes. It’s painted in a bright red with a large white stripe running diagonally down both sides of it. Their “Lady Liberty” logo is in the middle of both diagonal stripes. What I want to do is repaint this caboose like they existed back in the late 1930’s and all through the 1940’s. I can’t find any color pictures of any of their 4-window cabooses during this time period, anywhere. Can anyone tell me what specific color I could paint it, that would be prototypically correct (during this time period)? Thanks guys! -artguy

Life-Like sold a CNJ caboose with the round "New Jersey Central " emblem The color was like boxcar red, but darker. I might still have one; if I find it, I’ll post a pic.

Artguy,

There is a Yahoo Group called “CNJ-MODELER.” There are no fees for membership. The members are very helpful and knowledgeable when answering my questions about CNJ modeling. You might consider joining them.

I model 1956 and painted my old Roundhouse NE caboose with Polyscale Caboose Red and the color looks fine. Good luck

Thanks guys for the advice! I will join the CNJ-Modeler. PS: Overland just had a CNJ 4-window brass caboose for sale on Ebay. Unfortunately it sold real quick! But I do remember it being painted like it was “caboose red” (which I think is a pretty red color). Thanks again guys! -artguy
