CNW 8575 at Butler Yard in Milwaukee

Greetings,

While I was out shooting the Amtrak #90221 the F40 in Phase 5 Paint, I heard something on the scaner, “UP Dispatcher to the CNW #8575 at Butler Yard”. I almost had a cardiac arrest. Needless to say I headed out to Butler Yard to check it out. And lo and behold one of only 3 remaining CNW units playing around at Butler in the sunshine.

These two photos were taken at Silver Spring Rd grade crossing north of Butler Yard as the train was backing into the yard.

Also at Butler Yard a pair of Patched CNW SD40-2’s.

Nice shots Kieth. Amazing how exciting it is to see these units, whereas not too many years ago they would not have attracted anyone’s attention. That’s why we gotta grab the shots of the current ‘boring’ units we see everyday; get the shots now while they still look good in their original paint. Who knows what mergers (if any) are around the corner. Like the CNW units, who would have thought 15 years ago that Cascade Green would be so cool to see.

Oh, that must have been you! I was in the Toyota wagon. I still need to get my pictures online… Sorry I didn’t stop and introduce myself, I saw your vehicle leaving Maple Street the day before as well, I was heading up there to get pics of a CP GEVO on a 4 AC44 train!

Beautiful shots! [8D]

Yes Mark that was me both days. I almost missed the Z-train on Sunday at Butler. I should have just stayed at Silver Spring Rd. Glad the sun was out on Sunday.

I finally got my shots up:
CNW 8575
as well as some shots of the Z-CHEM on More Union Pacific.

What happened to the 3 CN&W GE widecabs UP had running around.

Well, there’s only two of 'em now! 8575 is the third, but is standard cab.

I believe that one of GE Dash-9 Widecabs is currently sitting at North Little Rock, which is not a good thing. Talk is that it is about to be “patched” into UP.

The other Dash-9 was running out in the Southwest California, Texas area still wearing the green and yellow proudly.
