I know that the Chicago and Northwestern used Pink Lady ballast because of a quarry on their line. But I am wondering if all their trackage was ballasted with Pink Lady or were other stones colors used on some sections of their tracks? Just curious.

The use of pink lady ballast was wide spread from the mid 1950’s on so all of the system was originally laid with other sources. My guess is that the far reaches of the system(Dakotas, Wyoming, Nebraska) most likely never saw any of it. Remember seeing it all over WI, Ill , Mi and MN.
