CNW Dash 9 Paints

I know CNW had three yellows they used. I am repainting my N scale Kato Dash 9’s and am curious if anyone knows a good off the shelf paint to use for a match? Is Polly Scale CNW Yellow good? I believe the actual ones are traditional yellow, but I do not know for sure. Thank you in advance for your help.

Kato produced the dash 9’s in CNW paint scheme for HO scale a few years ago. You might inquire at their website to see what color they used.

The C&NW only had 2 yellows that I am aware of:

Stagecoach Yellow(the traditional yellow, and the ones the Dash-9’s are painted in)

Zito Yellow - The sort of translucent safety yellow that they used for a short time before going back to the traditional yellow. This was used in the 80’s for a short time.

Scalecoat/Floquil/Badger all should have the traditional yellow paint:

Badger

  • 165-1655 CNW Old Yellow
  • 165-1656 CNW Zito Yellow

Floquil

  • 270-11260 CNW Yellow

Polly Scale

  • 640-10352 CNW Canary Yellow
