I noticed below that transportation accounts for about 35% of the price of coal. Does anybody know how much minning it costs?
Obviously the remaining 65% less the profit the mining companies make.

Awesome kfleeman1, that’s exactly what I was looking for! Thanks!
The mining costs are probably about the same dollar cost in 2006. Because the RR has increased shipping costs, I wonder what the percentages are currently.
This site is full of good information, but at times it can be difficult to navigate:
So here’s the section on coal transportation:
http://www.eia.doe.gov/cneaf/coal/ctrdb/ctrdb.html
While there raw data is very good, such as the past weeks coal production, their processed graphs and such need some updating.
Thanks
