Coal traffic near McAlester, OK and Choo-Choo Cafe?

Yesterday on the way to Texas via US 69 in Oklahoma, I saw a coal train heading Southward.

How much coal does this track carry, where does it go? and how does it compare to the coal traffic the KCS carries through TX Jct in Blanchard, LA?

Also, I saw an advertisement for a “Choo-Choo Cafe.” Does such a place still exist and is it any good? I would have investigated further but don’t like to eat alone. I think it was near Atoka or McAlester.

Finally, on US 82 somewhere near Whitesboro, on the South side of the highway I saw several old cabooses, one from the MKT. What’s the story there?

Sorry I cannot assist you with your question[:o)][:p]

The line you’re seeing at McAlester is the former Katy main line, now used by UP as the primary KCY-TX main line (paired in part with the remains of the MP line for one way traffic). Don’t have a number for you, but this line carries UPs western coal traffic to power plants in both OK and TX, so it sees heavy traffic.

Next time stop at Pete’s Place in Krebs for some of the best Italian food in the southwest.[dinner][tup][tup][tup][tup][tup][wow]
