Code 70 rail

I have some spare lengths of code 70 rail which I would like to place for trackside decoration around my layout. I would like to know what is the length of prototype rail? TIA.

Code 70 is close to 90lb mainline line in the Steam era. It was cut into lenth’s to fit onto 40 flat cars for transportation.

So 4 1/2" (4.6") would be appropriate. I '‘notch’ my fextrack every 4" - 5" to simulate.

Most rail was cut to 39’ sections for shipping on 40’ gons…
