Cody’s Workshop: Episode 8 - Filling holes in plastic

Nice. I always enjoy Cody’s modeling tips. I’m more of a builder than a runner so I like to see different ways to approach a modeling problem.

Great info and new painting jig. How about a followup on those cabooses on how you filed in the windows?

Cody,
Sorry I failed to add stars to my previous comment. It was a four star feature.
Thanks!
Mark

Cody,
Nice feature on filling the holes in the styrene.
One slight beef I have with Model Railroader is with the coupler jig segment. Most modellers or those just getting into the hobby can’t afford all the fancy tools and specialty gadgets you often use. It would be good to show that there are alternatives like a good old inexpensive X-acto miter box and saw which would also cut the bevel on the clothespins. There are almost always alternatives to every process calling for power tools. With todays economy model railroading is an expensive hobby and that more than anything may be keeping people away from it, especially young people. Show inexpensive alternatives like the coupler jig every chance you can but also use, or at least describe inexpensive means to make them.
A “Budget Builder” segment in the magazine would be a great monthly feature.
Thanks,
Mark

Hey Codi, as a fast alternative, you can disassemble a clothespin by removing the spring and reversing the two wood pieces, so that the handle parts become the clamping end. This gives you plenty of room to hold couplers for painting This way you don’t have to use that expensive cut-off saw. Keep the videos coming!!!

Great! Very informative. Gave me some good ideas.

As always another great series and super info… Many Thanks…
