Coe Rail and Greenbrier?

I’m looking at some Husky Stacks with the CRLE reporting mark, and it made me wonder…what is CRLE? Is it a separate leasing company or just a reporting mark of Greenbrier Industries, the car manufacturer. I see a lot of CRLE marks, yet can’t find much about the company on the internet. Odd. Anyone know what’s up with CRLE?

CRLE is one of the reporting marks of Michigan Air-Line Railway Company. Many leasing companies have some type of contract with shortline railroads, or own shortline railroads, and use the reporting marks of the railroad for some or all of their cars. It has something to do with how use of the car is paid by other railroads. I do not know the specifics. In this case the lessor is Greenbrier Management Services.

Thanks Eric, was wondering if this was a separate leasing company, or a shipping company or what. I’m looking at buying some Husky Stack intermodals, and wanted to know what was up with Coe. Looking at prototypes on the internet, CRLE seems to have a big and very modern fleet.

So they’re like AOK and NOKL then…short little shortlines that leasing companies use the name of for massive national fleets. CRLE is Greenbrier. Got it!

many thanks!
