Holy cow, August already… Mornin’ boys. Mornin’ English. Sunny & 75 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Family getting together at the swim club (couple of returnees from Nawth Caroliner), and perhaps a sail later on.

I got back this morning about 0400 from Washinton to meet with the representatives to encourage our current president to keep his word, what a concept! The issue is a loan garentee, not a bailout. Our project to enrich uranium is working and the loan garentee is saying we can borrow the money to move from R&D to full scale comercial production. If this project does not proceed, there will not be a domistic owned source of enriched uranium for the USA. The money is hardly a grant or “free”. We have already invested 1.5 Billion and the loan has matching funds from inveators for another 1 billion.
Enough of that. I removed the dishwasher this morning to reinstall the new one to be delivered Monday. I am going over it to strip whatever usable parts I may find!

I heard the loan guarantee was being vigorously opposed by the North Carolina delegation.
The thought of Ohio acquiring weapons of mass destruction has the Chief quaking in his boots.

I have been off the coffee pot for a few days now so I’m behind on the news but I wanted to wish you a happy one and thank you for your help and introduction to the Coffee Pot.
I have’nt been running trains much lately account the hot weather in the garage. Thursday night guys are laying low too. Got some chores done around the yard lately. Palm trees trimmed and bushes cleaned out of the back yard. Have a good week end all,

Wonderful day here in Northern Michigan. Had a nice chat with SJ while driving north today.
Its been a strange summer here in Michigan, we’ve hardly touched the high 80’s. Lots of rain to boot.
SP4449 made her way west from Michigan yesterday and is in Chicago today.
Jim, following up on your earlier post, I did a little research and found out that the decision not to approve the loan guaranty to your company, USEC, was based on a Department of Energy (DOE) determination that your company’s technology “is not commercially viable today, according to an independent engineering review, and therefore not eligible for DOE’s loan guarantee program at this time.” (Emphasis added)
The DOE spokesman also stated that: “the company had tested only 38 centrifuges while 11,000 would be needed to run the plant, “The project runs the risk of either major cost overruns or reliability problems or both, … given the problems they have had on the run time, we decided they needed more time before it went to mass production.”
However, even though an independent engineering review determined that the project is not yet ready for commercial production, the White House came out with a statement that it believes that the technology holds promise, and it authorized the DOE to provide $45 million to your company over the next 18 months to conduct further research, if it withdrew its current loan application.

Cell just rang. ID’d as Shake and Bake. Then lots of touch tone dialing on and on. I could hear some conversation in the background. I figured he was too drunk to talk and did not know he was dialing out continuously.
Ran trains for over an hour after returning from Miss Edna’s. Finally gave up on Lionel and bought the Legacy Remote add on pack. Did not want the charger but they have never produced the remote as a separate item. Now have two remotes and a spare charger [that I do not need as use regular batteries].
Now to rest up for the early train meet tomorrow. Starts at 9 AM. OH, will have to get up early.

Busy day. Got the camper off the truck, have afternoon services, then put new shocks on the truck. They went on easy. Used this stuff called PB blaster from autozone. All the shock bolts came loose easily. The penetrating fluid worked well.
EDW - Ohio was a very important state to win in the presidental election. The then candidate Obama stated that if elected he would have DOE provide the loan garentee. This one statement got him a LOT of votes. That is what I was refering to.

Evening all !!! Got home safe! Everthing went well on the drive home. We went back to the Nevada State Museum this morning, and really enjoyed it. Learned quite a bit about geology in the process. Got the car unloaded and the other two decided to go see The Transformers. So will go and check out the train room. Looking forward to the SPF tomorrow, see if I can get the last car’s pictures posted.

BTW, it is really amazing when you think about it. The distance from Carson City to here was 484 miles. Now in that total distance LESS than 25 miles was in an inhabited area. The remainder of the trip was across the High Desert on the East Side of the Sierra Nevada mtns. Some really desolate territory! Sage brush and Scronge Grass, that was it ! After the first 15 minutes the scenery is same for the next 7 hours.
Glad to be home.
Another warm one here, but it has been cooling down at night fairly well. Actually was able to shut the cooler off last night. Rain possible early in the week I guess.

Don - you basically just described Nevada in a nutshell. With the basin and range mountains and sagebrush being the state tree, I call it driving across the corrugated roof of the high desert. But if I had decided to pursue grad school, I think Nevada School of Mines in Reno would have been it.
Dennis - have you checked out the video of the MTH French Pacific? The whistle sounds sweet.
Not much else going on today. Taking care of some bills and just dealin’. Things are worse when I eat more often. Not eating seems to work best, but that’s only going to be effective for a few days I think. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Not just Nevada, but as you know a greater portion of California is the same way. Our son took a geology course last year and went on a field trip to the high dessert. It really turned out well for him, he has subsquently changed his major to Geology. On this trip we stopped at historical markers and all the points of interests along the way. And he explained what caused the formations, etc… Extremely interesting!!!
As many times as I have been up and down US 395, never new there was so much to see along the way!

It was a cloudy day in SE Indiana with temps in the 80s. Too long a day. Did not go to Kentucky to watch race for a variety of reasons. Once again, Penske won, but “Special” Ed Carpenter made it interesting with a close second. Sarah was 12th. AJ’s car was a non-factor again. Lost my car keys to the Cruiser over at my dad’s. Basically this was a day to forget.
