COFFEE POT #6 JUNE 2010 for all to take a drink and chat. Welcome all posters. 5 yrs old and still going. Sweet ice tea too.

John, thanks for the kudos…his lowest grade was a 97. (Must take after his mother). We are proud of him. What he lacks in athletic ability, he makes up for with his grades.

Bob, back when I was with the FD, all the guys had Sears Die Hard shoes. While not a boot, I think they had steel toes and were comfortable. Nice part was with lace ups, we could leave them a little loose and, when a call came in, just kick them off and put on boots. They hold up well and are cheap enough that when they do wear out, you can just pick up another pair. Worth checking out.

Well, time to get ready for church. I am on camera today and wife is working “wee-care”. Like to serve, but we miss the message and have to get it on DVD.

God Bless,
Dennis

This would make a great commercial, similar to what they like to do. And you would get paid for it!

Pat

Good Morning

Cooler today, heavy downpours during the nite caused a tornado west of here(over Kurts way) hope hes ok. Plans for the day, grannys bringing home a church friend for dinner. Sorry thats it for now. I’ll just see how it goes…S.J.

A quick aloha before going to church. Stormy last night. Hope everyone’s OK. Cograts on your son’s good grades, Dennis. I wonder what that’s like? [;)] Bob, have you ever tried Red Wings work-boots? I recommend them. Sorry I missed your call, Brutus, was at this wedding most of the day. The reception was outdoors where we dodged thunderstorms.

PROBE … I quit baitcasting … I think i had about 5,000 miles of expensive line backlashed … I went the same route as Fifedog … [#oops] … I eventually only hung the line over the edge of my scanoe … then finally gave all my baitcasters away .

DOUG … I agree on the redwings … best = well made boots I ever owned !

Morning guys - had poptarts on the dining car this AM. Doug - no prob, just was going to tell you when that movie was on. It was okay - they updated it to present day, changed the planet, added some kind of memory chip transfer thing, added an earth villain from Iraq, and of course the Tarks were only regular height and did not have 4 arms etc. If they do make a big budget movie based on John Carter, I hope they do it right!

Plans today are to make my wife happy. I will put up those shelf brackets, get the wood and maybe get it routed and painted today with any luck - hope it doesn’t rain!

I also have a light fixture to swap out, which is not a big project really, so I might sneak that in if it does rain.

Hmmm - need to run trains, too. We’ll see!

Afternoon all!

Thanks all for the compliments on the Chief and the attack beavers.

Bob - I also recommend the Redwings. I have a pair from years ago and still holding up. The down side is they get a pretty penny for those puppies, but you get quality and support if there is problem with the boots or shoes.

Hot again here. Made 100 yesterday and will be 99 or 100 today. Lawn and yard are drying out. Running sprinklers 2 times a week. May have to up that.

Taking it easy today. NASCAR and trip to mall for daughters B-Day present in store this afternoon.

Have a great day all!

Afternoon all. Sunday School and rest. Then went with wifey to Lowes Foods and Walmart. Now getting ready to cook fried pork chops and gravy, squash and onions, cabbage and fix cucumbers, onions and green peppers in vinegar. Southern cooking.

Speaking of Southern, Mike C and Sausy Winch are probably across the M&D. Are they in for a surprise. [}:)] Plenty of sweet ice tea and grits for them.

Now you will see why we live in the South. Things just grow bigger and faster.

Tomato plants and squash plants a few weeks ago:

Today:

Hot peppers [tiny row to the right]

Hot peppers now:

CHIEF … I love cucumber salad … only I sbstitute the green peppers for chunks of fresh tomatoes … and just a pinch of sugar to take the bite off the vinegar … [dinner] Sometimes I just peel a cucumber and eat it with a spec of salt too . Of course a plate full of sliced fresh tomatoes with slices of fresh peppers with a dab of mayonaise on the side make a great salad type snack too . You’re going to force me to go to the produce stand … darn it … nothing on any plants or vines locally here … [sigh] Is that southern cooking why you look so thin and underfed in that pic ??? [:-^]

Beautiful garden by the way … man plants DO grow alot faster and larger there !!! I have’nt raided a peach tree since I was 10 … but I’d be tempted raid yours … of course I can’t duck and dodge a rifle or shotgun with rocksalt any more … so guess you’d be safe … LOL .

Storms finally moved out of our area … some folks got a real bad pounding … but the worst seemed to bypass us … lucky for once . Bright beautiful sunshine now with low 70’s temps … fantastic … opened all the windows and both patio doors to let that fresh air flow !

Just a splash and go…nearly dark as night here with severe thunderstorm warnings and high winds, already commenced. Tornado watch and hail just North of here. Front extends from Worcester MA to my West all the way up to Portland ME. Wife didn’t listen to me, went to the Mall…[;)] and I am watching the ballgame weather channel. Boy is she going to be in a bad mood when she gets home. How do you spell d-r-o-w-n-e-d-r-a-t. Hope she doesn’t get struck by lightening. I’m getting hungry. [swg]

Jack

Chief,

Thanks for the heads up on MagniThin. I’ll check around. I was using Cajun Red (it was made by Shakespeare but it is now made by Zebco), and it did a very nice job on spinning and baitcast reels. I just switched to Fireline because I like to try different lines when possible.

Fife and Wes,

Trust me, I am no stranger to backlash. I made a really big mess on Memorial Day when I put too much into a cast and didn’t get my thumb on the spool in time. I also use open spinning reels regularly, but the closed type seem to hate me for some reason.

Good Evening

72 today, just had more rain. Storms are gone though.

I will be leaving soon for a graduation party, bet the girl doesn’t even know who I am. We would not have to suffer through these things except for the $$. There is lots of banilla and root beer so come on in…S.J.

I use mainly baitcasters. Get a few backlashes but not many. I use Rick Clunn reels [they are extra smooth and fast on the cast] along with Bass Pro Shops Extreme Rods or Bionic Blades. BPS use to make “cheap” stuff but now they make great rods and reels. I mainly use the ones with long handle and triger for finger. Don’t really like the short handle ones. I also use a lot of telescoping rods that go to 7 to 71/2 feet. Never been too much into floracarbon line. It is suppose to disappear in water. Can use it for a “leeder” on some rigs. I am mainly a crankbait and spinner bait guy.

Good evening everyone. Just a quick stop over before bed. We went to Longhorn’s for lunch. Had a fillet with bacon wrapped scallops. Came home and I was exhausted! I had only gotten two hours of sleep. Anyhow, went to sleep on the couch and woke up looking through hazy vision to see the clock and thinking it was 5:30, I jumped up, ran out the door for church. Found the clock in the car read 4:30 and decided to stop off at Books-A-Million and picked up a fancy coffee, as obviously, I needed to wake up. Also picked up a “O-Scale Trains” magazine and a “Outdoor Photographer” mag. so I will have something to read in between cases in the morning.

While at church (I eventually did get there in a timely fashion), we had about 110 media folks in as they are going to be on set this week for the movie. Also have some special guests in town, but it will make things interesting having all those extra folks around. Being a part of this project has really blessed me in many ways. I get to serve while also meeting some very interesting people. Will fill y’all in on more detail, but will have to wait till we are done shooting.

God Bless,
Dennis

Went to see the sights in Safford this afternoon and pick up some groceries and another prescription. Lot of traffic on the road today w/ the summer weekends and all.

I used to wear Wings all the time, but found that the leather uppers seemed to break down early on me. Granted I was working in the restaurant while in school and I’m not as good about oiling them. They are getting pricey though. I think I spent $200 on my last pair like 15 years ago. A lot of the standard work boots have two things I don’t care for, the pointed toes and the logger heel. I’ve had a couple of Wolverine pairs the last few years. For the money they have held up well and I can get a lower heel, but most have the more pointed toes (so you can get the cockroaches in the corners I guess:)

Nice garden Chief!

Did add a heavier spring to the pilot of the 2026 last night. Worked well.

Bob

Good Evening, Boys!

Helped out a bit on the Dream Cruise today, took plenty of pictures and videos, then attempted to go grocery shopping. The Princess called with “alarming” news, the smoke detectors were all going off and a smell of smoke…and there was a big thunderstorm underway…searched the house and found 1 TV toasted and several computer systems done in, not to mention the cable box…

Got the Aspen over to the shop for the Alignment. Got 5 gallons of fuel in it and started right up. Shifted well, too. Still has a punch in it, wish I could get those 3.55’s in the rear. Oh, yeah…the engine? 360 cid punched to 369 cid. And John, tell 'em I’m going to install Magnum heads on it soon…[swg]. The Daddy Wagon will live again…

Finally got home late, had a great talk with Mom & Dad. Just going over a few items and watching the Cup Finals…sorry Philly Phans…GO HAWKS!!!

Starting to plan my next vacation July1-12 in Jersey!

I Had red wing boots, they were really good, just wore 'em flat out.

OK, we’ll check back tomorrow!

Bob - they had a little feature on NPR the other night on the drive home about an engineer at a telescope. He is in charge of adjusting the mirrors, so guess it’s a different setup. Very interesting!

Dennis, sounds like you are really making progress on that movie and causing a sensation, which is all good, bro!

Nice garden again this year, Chief!

Had a nice short talk with RT, now I"m chatting with SJ and Charlie - solving the problems of the world [:)]

Shelves are done - wife wanted the prepainted Rubbermaid shelves, so she got what she wanted. They were about 4 feet wide, so put up 3 sets of those and one set of 2 feet wide. I bought some enamel paint to dab on the screw heads, but she said I didn’t have to do it. I might anyway - hate to waste $3, lol.

Tardis is ready to fly - grab your party stuff guys and bring some banilla, cause here we go!

Good Evenin’ Ya’ll,

Storms have passed. Heavy rains and high winds have passed but no damage here. Celtics/Lakers…I’m having a heart attack.

DougM…GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL. Was he excited or what? Black Hawks have this one in hand.

Dennis…congrats on the little guy’s report card and test scores. You must be so proud.

Rich and John…hope the kids did well on their SATs.

Brent, Chuck, and Fifepup (in a few weeks)…a little Rocky music with that rehab will help.

JimT…the SRX is back, looks better than the day I bought it. Collision shop delivered again.

SJ…memories of the A&W stands. Now THAT was root beer. Root beer floats are my favorite.

MikeC…we are worried about your sojourn South. They don’t adhere to the Geveva convention with prisoners.

Chief…the porch is looking oh so good, but it is missing the single light bulb hanging down the ceiling Southerner’s are so famous for. Didn’t see hammocks for the dogs either.

Later, gang.

Jack

Evenin’ Guys & Gals.

Great day today, a tad warm, the munchkin and mommy were out today. Needless to say grampa is pooped, up early to get things underway for a nice dinner for all then PLAY time after he gets here.

With regards to the Chief’s new accessory Roy did the really hard work. In Washington parlance I was just the “evil banker” taking advantage of people’s labors. [(-D]

Chief, Love that porch ! To me it is just begging for a nice “G” shelf track just above window and door height.

SAT’s, thank goodness all of that is long over with. At least til the munchkin gets older. [:-^]

A&W was ok, I always had a preference for Hires. At one time it could be found around here but haven’t seen it for many years.

Later…

Jack,

Glad you finally got that fixed. In my case, I still feel better that I fixed the damage myself.

Doug W.,

I think some company bought out Hires, but I’ll have to research that.

Finally managed to score a clean 350 Royal Blue tonight on ebay. [:D]
