COFFEE POT 7A, CLOSED [see #8]

Thirty five years ago the boss and I and two other couples did a canoe trip into the Boundry Waters in norhern MN. We left the lodge that first morning in dense fog and could barely see the shore line that we needed to follow, one of the guys had done that trip previously so he knew what to do. When the fog finally lifted we looked around and there were about 3-5 other canoes around us, so much for being in the wilderness! Actually, by the time we ended up where we wanted to be that first night – there was no sign of any other people, great trip! Would love to go back and do it again but stay in lodges at night [(-D] No such thing as a GPS in those days, would have come in very handy the third day out, everyone was convinced we needed to go a certain direction except my wife – she convinced us she was right – sadly, she was [bow]

Old timer, my grandmother was like that to me as well. I know how it hurts. Condolences to you and your family.

Ray

Hello all

It was a great weekend

Sunny but breezy and cool here, frost last night.

Ol Timer sorry about your loss

Fife I did’n make it to Cumberland, Dad had surgery the day before so I thought I should stick close to home. Maybe next year. Do you know any body that did go?

Don and Doug, I did’nt feel anything here but I may have been sitting on the top of a ferris wheel at our local chuch festival when it hit. The seat we were riding in sort of rocked a little bit when we stopped at the top of the circle but I don’t know if that was normal or from the quake. Did not hear any comments form anyone else at the festival so they probably did’nt feel it. Hope all is well with you guys today.

Ray

Good Afternoon

Sunny and a little warmer today. I spent most of the morning at the doc’s office and spent $104 at the drug store. And thats with insurance. Its no wonder people are force to stop taking their medicine. His verdict, bronchitis. I have not made plans beyond that point today. Have a great Monday…S.J.

Ole Timer, A little slow on my part but my deepest condolences on your loss.

Ray, I thought it was going to have been a larger magnitude quake than it was in reality. We felt it pretty strong down here, off hand it was maybe about third on the list only surpassed by Northridge and Joshua Tree quakes.

Fife, My only question is how many cup holders and how big is the bait tank.

Back from visiting the Art Institute - it’s free this week to ‘celebrate’ the opening of its 400 million dollar Modern Art wing. Gaah! This is my current favorite work:

Ole Timer - Sincere condolences for your loss, never gets easy! Thank the Lord for all the positive memories we always seem to maintain.

Good Afternoon Y’all!
Well, I missed the news about the shakin in CA. Hope everyone is doing well out there. We have had rain on and off since Saturday. Temps dropped and are supposedly going to be in the 40s tonight.

Fife, good idea to learn the charts. If for any reason the electronics go out, you still need to find your way home.

Chief, hope Miss Pam gets to feeling better. Lia has been having some reaction that we are trying to pin down. Both kids have been on the mend the last few days.

Looking at buying a new DSLR. I may get one from American Express as I have enough points to get one for free. This is the D90 and you can’t complain about the price. Figure this would be a good time as SWMBO will like the fact of having if for the cruise…and of course, I need to do a little familiarizing on SPF!

Hope everyone’s week is blessed.

Dennis

Took Mrs. Pam to two Dr’s. Both said wait it out. Now she seems better. She was a frightful kid this AM and felt sick and dizzy too. Skipped County Commissioners and took her. Bought her lunch before seeing the last Dr. Then we went shopping after all of that and I paid. Probably why she feels better. [:-^] Funny thing is, my eyes feel scratchy and etc. Oh well. Off to Town Hall and Mayor’s Association [free steak]. She is outside messing in flowers [good for allergies]. Later.

Obviously, the pigs are airborne.

Fife…When I used to ply the water of Lake Chautauqua after dark, I was required to find specific red-green channel markers then head 10 degrees to follow a narrow shallow channel to the dock. During the light of the day when I left the dock, the GPS would “track” my route and as I navigated between the red-green channel markers I would push a button to mark my location. In the dark, those markers and “bread crumbs” were my guide back to the channel and the dock. Even with a spotlight it is easy not to find the markers. The GPS puts you right back into the correct spot even when you can’t see. I also could have asked for a specific heading to the channel markers from far out on the lake in the dark. People think at night they can navigate by the lights on the shore. It is very difficult when you are a mile or more from shore. All the lights look the same.

Even with the GPS when we were on the water in

First … thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts … bless you all .

Chief … threw a little prayer in for your wife … really hope she gets better very soon .

Also added some for the expectant mother who had the problem with childbirth … am looking forward to some pics of that new baby … have’nt seen or missed any updates on her … but she’s … and the dear little baby … on the list for the daily prayer .

Doug … great pics on ther other post …

WOW … am I glad we don’t have quakes here … any that we can feel anyway … they say they have minor ones up the road near Lancaster , Pa. ---- scarey !

SJ … glad they finally pinpointed what it was … need ya strong and kickin ole buddy !

Local O scaler sold me some wall train shelving … I’ve never seen any before like it … white / metal … about 16 ft. long … he even delivered it … he said he got it at York a few years ago … 5 sections = 80 ft. … wife refuses to let me hang it on the living room wall … LOL . That idea went over as well as the one I had about a mural of a huge steam engine rolling down the tracks on it . Guess I’ll have to keep looking at her family’s pictures the rest of my life instead … [xx(] … forgot to add … no pics of me amongst them … LOL … does that tell you anything ?

Ole timer sorry to hear of your lost. It is hard when that time comes.

Evening all. well lost out on a deal of the century I guess guy had add ( in local paper) for old lionel train set $25.00 sold about 10 minutes befor wife called. said they were his kids when he was younger back in the 50 and 60’s [banghead] [banghead] Does anybody have a rope I can use? [xx(]LOL

Oh well going good here need to get my application in for at work the job that came open. (giving me a head ache doing all this paperwork lol)

Dennis–

The D90 is an amazing camera, if you do get it you’ll have a hard time putting it down. Be sure to get an extra lens or two and without question the Speedlight SB-800. I have recently been using it a lot for fill in flash everywhere in bright situations. I do not use it at all for SPF, just my best friend, Mr. Tripod [tup]

RT … I won’t even tell you about the box of brass engines I missed at a yard sale because I would’nt go with my wife that day … she came home and told me about these old ugly gold colored engines … they did’nt even have any paint on them … said I probably would’nt want them anyway … they have black spots on them … blew in there like a wild man … lady said " oh some man bought them all " … [banghead] … wife said all don’t feel too bad i bought you a lionel clock … a clock !!! [%-)] … a dumb clock … LOL . No … DUMB ME ! Brass engines … oh well … that was way over a year ago … still not over it and have’nt found anything like it since . So don’t feel too bad .

Ole timer the best deal I would say I got and didn’t really know it at the time was a freind came up to me and said he bought this train set at the thrift shop for $25.00 If I wanted it I could have it for $35.00 or he would put it on ebay and see how it went. It was a HO set by lionel in original box. I did notice a couple of kinda good cars in O so went for it. Kept it for a while but needed money so did some reserching and found out it was a uncataloged dealers set probally from FL area as it had the space capsale car ( with original space capsals with it ( remember this is the HO not O ) it also had exploding box car and missile firing car and a 0-4-0 steam engine. It also had original transformer and track. well to make a long story short I ended up selling it for $600.00 that was about 4 years ago.

Wes “Ole Timer” - sorry for your loss man. I wasn’t on the computer very late last night, so didn’t get to post until now [:(]

SJ - so glad you went to the doctor!

Prayers for all of use and our loved ones who need them.

RT - that’s a great story! What a deal! I like it when they have stories like that on Antiques Road Show.

Doug - cool pic [:)]

Took down my John Bull and a circle of track with my prewar torpedo and cars that the kids kept knocking over. Not very safe on a little cardtable in the livingroom. Need to get that basement done… Had some tacos for dinner including a “volcano” taco - hope it doesn’t have afterburners! [(-D]

Well, dinner is done and have some work to do around the house for a little bit, so TTFN! I’ll be back (Arnold voice)!

Jon, I did go for it. It should ship tomorrow and I guess I’ll have it by the end of the week. I have quite the assortment of Nikon lenses. Everything from a 200mm F2.8 lense upto a 1200mm lense. I hope I can still get some good results with those, but we shall see. The package comes with the d18-105mm lense. I may get another "d"lense out to perhaps 300mm. Will see. I also want to get a good macro lense, but don’t want to get ahead of myself. As for the speedlight, I agree. I have some other lights, but I hear great things about the SB one. I am also thinking about a slave for different effects.

I may have to check back with you on some specifics, but I am really looking forward to getting this.

Thanks<
Dennis

Good Evening

Sun all day but we are stuck in the 60s. Warmer later this week. The meds have me lightheaded and woozy. Cough med. has codine in it. So I couched this afternoon. Banilla is ready for the Tardis but I better not drive. No scratch that this would be perfect, what a ride. S.J.

The Tardis travels through time, not traffic.

RT … WOW !!! Happy for you man … ! Yea those I missed were HO also … but man … you made out great . I have’nt found 1 O scale train yet … at flea markets or yard sales worth over $10.00 . Are you irish … LOL ? I think I hear the tardis warming up … [8D] Brutus … we’ll leave the door cracked open on the tardis in case of gas fumes … volcano ones at that … LOL .
