Just got off the phone with Rich. 95 is driving him crazy in Virginia, so he’s gonna drive on thru to NJ. Told him I will host a Mid-Atlantic region Coffee-Pot Symposium in August. It’s a done deal, just need to pick a date. Talking a little burger and dog action on the grill as well

Are you gona include us southern boys? We promise to leave our weapons at home.

Bake n’ Shake

Pat

Don,

[bday]

I continued working on the AF 282 yesterday. I fixed 3 separated drivers, polished the linkage, polished the tender wheels and journal boxes, and resoldered the harness to the plug. The person who took this one apart aparently cut the harness from the plug instead of just pulling the plug from the panel.[banghead] They also lost the crossheads and chasis mounting screws. When I bought this 282, I had to put a rubber band around it to get it home in one piece.

Mornin’ boys. Mornin’ rt, thanks for startin’ a new Pot. Cloudy & 74 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. It was nice to have windows open all day yesterday. Grocery shopping this AM, then I’m not sure what we’re doin’ the rest of the day. Calling for rain “sometime”.

Actually, Pat, Rich and I spoke specifically about getting you and OleTimer (and everyone else we simply haven’t been able to meet) over. Hudson, if you wanna rendezvous with Rich somewhere, that would be great. Perhaps, we can aim for the weekend of the 21st-22nd. Not sure what everyone’s vacation plans are, but the idea is to keep it light and informal. PA boys (Mitchie,JohnF,Probe,Laz,Banks), not too far a drive for yuz guyz. 88, you better be there. Anyone I miss? Haven’t finished my first cup of coffee yet.

Good Morning from the Jersey Shore, 72 going to 81, Scattered Thunderstorms.

My son and I skipped fishing this morning. He got in late and the weather forecast was not that great to be out in an 18’ center console.

Brutus, If you lived closer it would be no problem helping you out. I have had a “few work on vehicle parties” here.

SJ, Joe, I guess last night was pizza night. That was the fare here also.

Dennis, That is a great tribute to your Mom. A great conversation piece also.

8N, Speedy recovery for your Wife and her planned escape from the hospital.

NavyJack, We just finished the Shoofly Pie that I brought back from Lancaster, Pa last night. Good Stuff

Don, Sounds like a Great Birhtday Party. I wish you many more and good health.

Banks, Since you live near Altoona, I am thinking of taking a trip to Horse Shoe Curve next week, to hide and relax for 2 days. I have never been there. Any suggestions about food, lodging, sights?

Green 97Probe, Jim, Good luck with the 282. I sounds like you have done it before and you enjoy it.

RT, Thanks for starting the new pot.

Rich, I hope it all went ok.

Chuck, The Dining Car has arrived. The Jersey Special Today is Taylor Ham, Egg and Cheese.

Prayers and Thoughts for all in need.

John

Hudson - If you want to stay close to the “action”, I’d recommend the STATION INN B&B in Cresson, PA. This is on the West Slope, just west of Gallitzin. I’m gonna also recommend the newly refurbished fishing center next to the Rockville Bridge (Marysville, PA). It is probably midway between your front door and Horseshoe Curve.

Oh, and if the Mrs is tagging along (and ain’t into rail), there are plenty of big name hotels on the eastside of Altoona. Call ahead, as State College tends to eat up surrounding hotels with back-to-school…

Good Morning

Sun and 80s today.

Not fair it can’t be August already, I protest, it has to be a plot from the reb states. No news this morning so just enjoy your day…S.J.

Morning all

Jim You need a cross head? I think I’ve got one in my junk box, PM me and let me know.

I got the roof tore off the garage yesterday. Roofing sheating and framing off to the plates. Next frame up and re-roof.

MAy God bless

Jim

Fife,

We seem to post about the same time. I was typing and got interupted by the pup, who cornered a cat in the yard. He just did it again. He was in the yard, it started to drizzle, he started barking to come in. I thought Labs are supposed to like the water.

The Coffee Pot Symposium is a great idea. We normally go to the Thresherman’s Reunion at the Rough and Tumble Museum in Kinzers, Pa. It is Aug. 18 to 21. We usually stay overnight, Friday to Saturday. If you decide to have it on Saturday, the 21st we will just be there on Friday. Last year at the flea market, I bought a 2332 BLACK GG1 for $75. Brought it home, cleaned and lubed it and it runs great.

Thanks for the info on Horseshoe Curve. I will be doing it by myself. My son will be at NJ State Police Youth Week and my wife is busy with the Ice Cream Shop. My wife suggested that I go someplace and chill and not work on anything but relax. Let me know what flavors that you want for the “Symposium”.

With all the interruptions this took me a 1/2 hour or so.

John

Posted this and it vanished. Trying again—

navyjack (the name old coot is taken)

Our son grows bi-color sweet corn. Great Tasting. We have more maters than we know what to do with. Chief would be proud.[bow] They make great “grenades” to run off the buzzards!

Pat (old coot)

Good morning guys! Train symposium sounds like a great idea, wish I lived closer. Need to work on the basement today - try to get the bathroom drywall up down there on at least 2 walls. Also need to finish soldering few bends and caps then pressurize the whole thing - we’ll see how that goes! I might do that first, before I put any drywall in that room [(-D]

Good afternoon,

fife, Train symposium sounds fine to me, the 21st looks clear on my calendar.

Looks like a lot happened since my last post. I even forgot Don’s birthday. So

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DON

Brutus, that sounds like one of my projects, just how long have you been working on that basement project? [(-D]

Have a great week,

Hey Don, Belated happy birthday buddy and lots more of them[bday]. Today, August 1st, is my #2 son’s birthday also. We will all go out for a birthday dinner somewhere.

I finally found the problem with my layout from yesterday. It turned out to be a short or loose connection in the trackwork at a crossover switch between my two main lines. I saw it glowing and cleaned out some debris that was hot.

later,

Ray

Good afternoon everyone. Been a good one so far. Was supposed to be on Camera #1, which is my usual, but the #3 operator fell off his roof last night. #3 requires more moving around and more adjustments. Good service and Sunday School was very good too. Following, we had lunch at our usual place.

Rich, hope you have a smooth journey and that you are able to land a good source of income soon. With your background, you have a good foundation to appeal to a number of different kinds of businesses. I am sure something will work out.

Would like to catch up at the gathering, but not sure when I will be able to get up that way. We are making arrangements for a cruise and, since we will be leaving out of Cape Canaveral, we are going to make plans for Kennedy Space Center. They have one deal that includes lunch with an astronaut which sounds cool. Really want the kids to have such experiences when they are available.

Gonna check out the rest of the posts. Hope everyone has a blessed week ahead.
Dennis

Fife,

I’ll let you know.

John,

I’ve overhauled several AF steamers, but this 282 is taking me a while.[:)]

Jim,

Thanks for the offer, but I already got the crossheads from that ebay seller in Janesville, Wisconsin.

Just got in from working a four hour shift, which was the shortest I have ever had on a Sunday. I am going to work on the 740, then I’ll get the camera out.

Good afternoon all,

It has been a wonderful Sunday so far; great church service and lunch afterwards. Just relaxing the rest of the day and may take the kids to the base pool once the temp drops a bit. Posted some photos of the “It’s A Boy” boxcar I recently picked up.

I guess us folks in the midwest (I guess OK is considered midwest) need to plan a coffee pot meeting of our own.

Joe

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s. Taking it easy today. Happy birthday, Don! I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast. TBIL anytime. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
