COFFEE POT November 2018. 14 years old. Lots of Coffee and the start of the Holiday Season. Veterans Day and Thanksgiving

Hello there,
Nice for the most part yesterday and today. Only a few scattered showers. Rain, heavy at times tonight and tomorrow…

Inside stuff and Mom issues tomorrow.

Won a Gilbert B&O F3 from '57 for cheap on the bay. Described as lights up and hums but no go. 99% sure all it needs is cleaning.

Roy…lots of dead ash trees 'round here. You’re welcome to come get all you want. …

Time to crash

Prayers for those in need.

Morning all, Happy November.

Good Morning,

There are advantages to be on the left coast, right at the top of the first page.

Congrats RT on the house!

Boy, been busy, Dentist on Monday (2 cavities), then back today (1 cavity), no more visits until next spring. She said I was now cavity free!

Past 3 days been working on the laptop conversion! Finally finished only 1 open issue and that’s with RR Track software. Boy, those guys are really hard to get a hold of!
Ended up retiring one laptop and resurrecting another. Was having extreme power/battery problems. The laptop with a full charge would just drop off. So now have this ThinkPad all properly configured and operating. Thought I had something I would be able to retrieve. Ended up I have 5 laptops laying around! So went through each of them to see why

Boo-y’all. The newlyweds invited us for dinner last night, and to watch the trick-or-treaters (we don’t get any at our house). It’s now back to 3-day work weeks at the RR. Very mild weather here.

Morning team!

48 and sunny for the start of Nov! Nice! Low 60’s today.

DonB - our city has a couple of free electronics recycling events every year. Over the past couple of years I took 5 laptops and 4 old desktops (one a 286!) Along with all the peripherals. Took all the disk drives out. Bought a universal USB drive adapter and was able to see the data on all of them.

Here is the video Don refers to…Facebook video of the recipient of the Make-a-Wish layout and train furniture that TW Trainworx provided, funded by a benefactor.

My son and I did all the building placement, wiring, road through the middle, crossings, etc. he even did some of the ballasting. Fun little layout with a lot of details.

Oh, and all the buildings had to be modified to secure them to the layout so it can fold up when not in use.

November already. Jan & Feb don’t go by this fast.

No T or Ts last night. Most kids live at the other end of the block and do the Sub from there.

45 degrees this morning with 24 hours of rain in the forecast.

S.J.

Passing through. Crazy busy day.

Good afternoon all,

Had all of 5 trick or treaters last night. Weather too miserable. Work quiet yesterday and today. I hope everyone has a good day.

Happy All Saints Day!!

Halloween was a success at my house but a bummer at the parents. Spent time at both…The kids had 2 LARGE bags of candy and it was gone by 8:30, Mom sat out until 9 and we have 1.5 bags left. Traffic on my street with the kids was heavier than normal. Weather was great and 60F at 8PM. Kids had the fire pit on the front lawn and they dressed up as the White Witch and the Pastor (he was warning the kids not to go near the White Witch…lol). Not as elaborate as past years, but nice and effective. Good crowd of kids.

I wore my NJ Devils Jersey, since I work near Philly and I didn’t get killed, so that was a success as well…

Sunny today, up to 71F. Rain and storms tomorrow until Saturday. Clearing up for the Toy Run in Philly on Sunday looks like this is 60 for the high and 40 for the low.

RT - Good Luck on the house!

DonB - I use my old laptop for a base for LED TV…good luck on the in-laws.

Day off: trip to post office, grocery shopping, gas station, trip to hardware store for bird seed, up on ladder to replace faulty double spot light with new LED single spot, up on ladder to replace BR40 bulb in cathedral ceiling, cleaned out garage, leaf blower put to use on front and back porches, cleaned up Maxiepiles, masked up new tinplate factory and applied oxide red to walls, moved palm tree to front porch, filled bird feeder, played frisbee with dog, picked up youngest from school, vacuumed ground floor and stairwell, took down Halloween decor and put up Thanksgiving decor, and took out trash.

Fife, So what did you do with the rest of the day?

Good evening all,

Quiet rest of the day at work. Still rainy. Wife and I played several board and card games tonight for a nice change of pace. I hope everyone has a good day.

Hello there,

Predicted rain didn’t show. After a few showers yesterday was warm with minimal clouds. Didn’t get to take advantage 'cause Mom stuff was more than I thought. More of that today.

The trees that aren’t bare are starting to turn. The colors are darker than normal. Just not the usual fall splendor.

Hopefully it will be dry enough to start gathering leaves tomorrow.

Altoona train show Sunday. Fife. …doors open at 9am if you can squeeze it in.

Best get on with the day.

Prayers for those in need

Banks - So close, but yet, so far… Thanks for the tip.

dbaker - youtube.

rt - Good luck with the new digs.

Mornin’ Fellas

Just woke up from reading about Fife’s workload yesterday!

Carpet guy due to arrive any minute to try and stretch the hallway and Master Bedroom carpets. Hope it goes well and we don’t end up needing to replace it!

Met with the security lady regarding prewiring the new house. Apparently everyone feels cordless phones are the way to go and giving up in-wall phone jacks… so what are they plugging their cordless phone base into? I am going with two, one in the home office and one in the master bedroom. I will use jack splitters so we can have a phone base and corded phone in the master bedroom, and a phone base and corded phone in the home office. Rest of the house will be serviced by cordless phones. Also having a very hard time figuring out the furniture layout in the new office… looking at the office from the front of the house there will be french doors off the main hallway on the right wall, a large window on the front wall, and a doorway to a garage on the front of the left wall. I was thinking of having the desk face the window, with the lateral file next to it on the right, and the credenza with hutch behind the desk… only problem there is my desktop tower will be ‘exposed’ to the left of the lateral file. I could turn the desk facing the french doors, with the lateral file to the left and the credenza behind the desk, the desktop tower would be to the left of the desk and ‘protected’ from foot traffic, problem here is the window glare… of course it depends on the window coverings… I am leaning toward the second configuration.

What are you guys’ thoughts on in-floor outlets? The security lady and the builder are recommending them in the home office and great room floors… my concern here is if we do that, won’t we be ‘restricted’ with furniture layout?

88 - In a great room floor plan, in-floor electrical outlets would be practical. I would want a design that would allow for concealment from time to time. Would really free things up for a Christmas tree/layout as a centerpiece.

88 I have one phone jack in the house which is thru the cable company. I also have internet thru them and I use my computer line ( without any problems and computer doesn’t need to be on 24 x 7 ) and have magicjack with a second phone number. For about $40 a year with the 911 access fee I actually prefer that phone. I only have the other one because to get the TV & internet discount had to have it thru the cable company. Just a thought and I have I use a base with 4 phones. You probably could do two phones thru them for like maybe $80 a year instead of a month. And it actually has many features with it

Call Features

911, automtic call screening, call blocking, call forwarding, pinless conference, voice mail on/off/delay, voice mail via email, and caller ID name

I know they also offer a business phone service also.

We went shoting yesterday and I was so tired I went to bed at 7:17. I sure hate to be old. And up at 5:33. I’m off to bulletin stuffing soon. puting inserts into bulletins for the big church I go to. A big social event and fun for us senors.

Morning. Rainy and warm. Town mess of yesterday gone I hope. Sad. About former PD Chief.

Slept late so must have been tired.

Have a good one.

88 floor outlets are ok. Make sure to get the ones that are flush to the floor even with a cord connected and capable of supporting foot traffic when not in use. These are commercial grade and may not be available at most places. Good luck with the build.
