Some years ago I saw a coffee table layout that had only a single track in view.
The train when running first appeared in one direction then the other.
Does anyone have the layout design???

Can you explain it a little further? Did you see it in person (if so, where?) or a magazine (if so, which one)?

This sounds like one of the layouts I have seen - try “mike’s small track plans” and you may find it. I am building a coffee table layout as well 2’x4 1/2’ in a table with glass sides and top, and 2 drawers underneath to hold controls, etc. I am still working on a track plan myself …keep in touch, maybe we can swap some ideas. I don’t visit this site too often, usually stay on the atlas N forum. Thanks!
If I remeber correctly It was in a mid 90’s MR. The builder was modeling just part of a train depot.
That’s probably Jake Schulz’ N scale layout. It was in the Oct '92 Model Railroader. The article was titled "N Scale hometown in a dining table "

I just came across an article in the Sept 2001 MR which has an NScale layout in a coffee tabel 2" X 4’. Is this the one you are talking about? Its an “over and under inverted dogbone” to quote the author Harvey Simon. There are no sidings or swiches just one continous loop of track. Looks like an interesting layout and I may give it a try.
Uptown: I am doing a 2’x4 1/2’ coffee table layout as well - is there any way you can get me a copy of that article? You can contact me by email if you’d like. Thanks!
Styrene Wiz, I don’t have the mag at the moment, its with the cabinet maker who is making the table for me. He will have it for a least a couple of weeks and I won’t be picking it up till then. Ck with you local hobby stores, they quite often have old copies for sale or what about your local library? If all that fails let me know and I will copy the article and mail it to you.

uptowntrain: What type of table are you going to have for your layout? I was interested in what you are paying for it as well. I am getting a 2’x4 1/2’ maple table from a guy that builds them, as well as the layouts. It has a glass top and glass sides, is about 11" deep, and has 2 drawers under the table to mount the controls, etc. I am paying $250 for my table - I thought that was a pretty good price compared to some tables I have seen. Thanks!
