Does anyone know where I can find an HO scale coke oven with quencher kit, Walthers number 3053? I’ve tried E-Bay, but the only one listed there sold for $147.00. Yikes!!
Since you’re looking for a retired kit, I would bet the eBay is the only place you’ll find one. Considering that the kit originally sold for $99.98, I’m not surprised they would command a premium price.
There is a newer kit available without the quencher…

It’s on sale for $44.98!

The quench tower is basically just a rectangular concrete structure - it would be very easy to scratchbuild using Evergreen styrene.
Thanks for the info. I am working in HO scale and am planning on building a representative model of the old duPont Morgantown Ordnance Works, which was built in Morgantown, WV in the early 1940’s to produce anhydrous ammonia for high explosives manufacture. Due to a rather embarrasing oversight on my part (a long story), I now have an N scale model of the coke ovens with quencher, number 3806 (unopened). Anybody have an HO scale kit of the same kind they want to trade? Oh well, just thought I’d ask.

933-2910 is the updated version of the kit you asked about. Still available from Walthers or your LHS. Same as the original kit with an additional structure over the ovens.
Trainworld has the original (3053) for $79.99 and the updated version (2910) for $59.99.
As I am building the kit right now. Trust me on this. It’s similar but not the same. Yes there is a structure on top, and the coaling tower and the coke ovens are the same, but the detail parts that are in the Quencher aspect are not there. There are fewer details over all. It’s a pretty bare bones kit when you get down to it.
I built mine a few months ago. It’s big but for me it lacked some detail to make it come alive. That said I haven’t painted it yet. Once that is done it should be more alive.
