Cold and Steamy #4449 Trips along Mississippi River

Greetings,

Got back from the Friends of the #261 Fall Color Excursions pulled by the Southern Pacific #4449 Daylight. The weather was a bit unexpected. About 1/2" of snow fell early Saturday morning in the Twin Cities and the temp was about 25 degrees in the morning. The cold weather might have been bit tough for those riding and chasing but it sure made the #4449 show off some steam while running between Minneapolis and La Crescent, MN Saturday and Sunday.

To see more shots from the Fall Excursions check them out on my Flickr Photo Page at Keith’s Flickr Railroad Pics

It was a GREAT TRIP !! Big thanks to all involved especially the Friends of the #261 and all those connected with the SP #4449. Here’s hoping that the trip westbound to Portland goes as well as the inbound trip.

Great pix ! Thanks for sharing…I wish we could get some steam down here in Texas !

I have trouble getting mine to be pristine. My pictures always have people in them.

We just try and get to our spots early, sometimes it seems a bit too early and then hope that everyone else understands the theory of the photo line. Which doesn’t always work, but usually does.

I have put up some video’s from the Fall Excursions onto YouTube. Check them out if you wish.

Keith,

WHEW ! These are very good vids, what kind of camera are you using,it looks like HD very clear and good color,

not your usual running old looking colors…Thanks for sharing

…Beautiful shots…! Including that awesome night one. And the steam on the last shot is outstanding. Deep rich colors in all shots.

And the videos are great too…Awesome sound reproduced from that engine…! Just to see those “drivers” flailing around brought one back to what power used to look like.

Thanks for sharing the pictures with us. The cool weather makes for the best condensation shots and your pictures are about as good as they get.

Thanks again
