Cold Heat Claims another victim

OK, it looked awful good. A small unit soldering gizmo, that would not require you to wait 4 hours for your gun to get hot, was small in size, and fairly cheap $20.00 from Radio Shack. Problem is it does not work. It will melt solder, but it will not really MELT solder. So…does anyone else use this item and have you had any better luck? Thanks to all that reply, Jake

Jake; I was going to try one till some one posted about it here shortly after it came out & said it wasn’t too good, so I didn’t get one.
Thanks for reafirming that !!

Jake,

There has been a lot of discussion on these gizmos on both of the forums. Bottom line - they don’t work as advertised on TV. [:D]

I have one and it is great for working on PC boards and very thin small wires.

I started the thread they’re talking about some months back—what a piece of crap!!!

Get a real one from radio shack, etc and move on. Be sure to take it back. Radio Shack took mine back and credited me for a REAL solderer.

Got one and still in package. Had it for a while. I understand it works as Tom has indicated [some buddies have one] . Not for medium and heavy soldering. I got a Radio Shack Sloldeing Station for all of that. That is really nice to have.

Like the Chief, I have one, never used it, but I figure that it will come in handy one day when I need to solder a board or some really fine work. These are the type of tools that are not worth a darn 99% of the time, but when you really need it, they are worth a bunch.
