Can any one tell me what efffect cold will have if any on locomotives & Dcc Controller I built a layout in a new shed I will have a space heater on when Iam running my trains I live in the north country of new hampshire my trains also have sound thank you
I have my trains in the garage, it is heated, and I turn down the heater when I go in. But I never let it get below freezing, i keep it around 45F, by the garage door it probably gets in the low 30’s.
My self, I would keep the heater on at a low temp.

Temperature and humidity swings will effect trackwork much more than the electronics in locomotives and DCC controller.
If you can stand it, the trains and the electronics can stand it. When the electronics are powered up, they warm themselves fairly rapidly. DCC may do some foolish things when powered up at zero degrees, but give them a minute or two and they ought work OK. You won’t break anything by letting it get cold.
I’m up in Franconia NH, where it can get mighty cold in winter. Like 40 below. How far up north are you? Up here, I’d find it too cold to run trains in winter, less I had insulation and a good oil burning furnace heating the train room. An uninsulated shed with just a space heater can be mighty cold in February with a 30 knot wind whipping cold thru the cracks and chinks. But you could just let everything sit thru the cold weather and start operating in the spring.
