Does anyone keep track of what they have using software? My collection is getting to the point were I’m not sure what I have anymore and I would like to keep track of what I have better. Is there any free software someone can download?
Dave, what operating system are you using?
Windows or MAC?
I use Microsoft Access for mine.
You could use a spreadsheet, that would be easy to use, Access has a better
way of tracking your inventory.
There probably is freeware somewhere, but I tend to be leery about downloading stuff from the www.
Email me if you would like some help with it.
I’m just down the 401 from ya.

I’m using Windows 98. I have Microsoft Access so I’ll give it a try. If I have any questions I’ll email you. I’m kinda leary about downloading stuff from the internet too.
I’ve used Access to inventory my fleet. I’ve even added pictures to the database. Just spend some time figuring out how you want to use your information and how you want to present it. And use that information to develop the fields you will need in your table or tables. I have two databases: one for the rolling stock, and one for the engines…
you can try this link:

Cool Lupo, but with Access you can include infomation or not include information.
You design the database to include the information you want or need.
loucad, I went one step farther.
I set up 3 different tables, 1 each for locomotives, freight cars & passenger cars.
All of these are in the same database.
I separated to three tables as I wanted different info for my freight cars that I didn’t need for my other two tables & so on.
This is my second database.
One, because I want to be able to get certain info quicker
,2) the database I copied to my new computer from my old computer is missing! OUCH!
3) I want to see how far I can go to incorporate my database into my RR operations.
If anyone wants, I can email my database to anyone if you want to check it out.
I’m still in the process of setting the new one up so it’s not very big.
Still smaller than a megabyte. Barely! [:)]
The only thing you need is Access to open it

I have used Excel for about 13 years and it has been fine. I think Access would probably be better, but I haven’t been inclined to spend the time converting / importing the data from Excel. If you start from scratch, use Access.
