I am researching the Colorado Kansas Railroad which was incorporated to access the South Eastern Colorado Coal Fields (which petered out prior to completion of the trackage) and which operated as a smal regional carrier until the 1950s. I am specifically interested in its locomotives and rolling stock. Any help would be apreciated.
www.pueblohistory.org has some photos of a depot and a steam loco from around 1909-1910. I just did a search on google.com for “Colorado Kansas Railroad.”
Thank-you for the reference to pueblo history.org. I think the locomotive in the picture was leased from the D&RGW. They also created a diesel electric by converting an old electric motor coach in the forties or early fifties. I would love to find a picture of this locomotive, and someone who could tell me what the paint and color scheme was on it. A gentleman who remebers seeing it says it was a dark red or burgandy color with gold or yellow striping. Using this locomotive the railroad continued operation into the 1960’s hauling clay and sandstone from near the community of Stone City to Pueblo, as well as other limited freight. I would appreciate any other information anyone out there may have. Thanks.
