Not long ago I put a lot of the green corse foliage out on part of my mountain. I didnt have any other colors at the time…and it looked ok to me…but now it is just toooo green. I have some of the olive green foliage (bushes)… which I can blend in…but I am wondering if I can put some thined acrylic paints on it? I thought maybe I could get various shades of green, thin it…and splash on various colors, is this something that is typically done?
I would only use VERY thinned paint to make it like a wash. IMHO, I would get some olive turf and sprinkle it on in the greenest areas. Or, you could save on the materials and relight your layout room with orange lighting to counter-act the green.
yes I was going to make it very thin… I guess I could sprinkle the thin ground cover over it, similar to how you do when you make the trees… I could also just pluck off sections of green and put the olive green in… it is just some of the mountain slopes are steep and it was a bit more difficult to get that all covered so I am trying not to destroy it lol. it looks ok but just want to have more of a variety of colors.
Indeed, Chuck, spray tinting hillside foliage can be done and results in significant overall improvement if carefully done. However, it is an approach best worked using an airbrush, so that the modeler has full control of application. The final adjustment to the colors of my layout’s autumn scenery was done in just such a manner.
I would sprinkle on a different color of ground foam. Use wet water on the area you want to change first, add the new color, wet water again and glue. What could be a problem with the diluted paint is it might go where you don’t want it.
My first thought was airbrush as well, with acrylics. You’d just need to be careful and take into consideration when the foliage is wet it will take on a different tone. I’d say a coat a night, letting it dry completely in between.
