Colors of Fall or Winter Snow - why not both? Steamtown Photos

With a prediction of an early snowfall in the Pocono Mountains in PA, a friend and I took a ride up to Steamtown and were not let down. Though Steamtown’s park and East Stroudsburg were wet, damp and rainy - the higher elevations such as Gouldsboro and Tobyhanna were in the midst of an Autumn snow storm. All photos taken October 17th, 2009. Enjoy!

WOW - thanks for sharing. [tup] Like stepping out of a time machine. I hope the 3254 sounded and smelled as good as she looks in these.

You can tell from the comments which ones are the favorites. [;)] For me, it’s the Gouldsboro station - the crossing gate with its red lights, the classic station off to the side with the snow accumulations in the roof corners, and the little evergreen tree out front really give it the holiday card feel.

Mount Pocono is a better snow-scene image with the almost all-white ground cover, but the lack of any props such as those at Gouldsboro cause me to put it 2nd.

The Tobyhanna one is marred as an art or card images by the ripped-up track in the foreground and the ‘confetti’ effect of the falling snow - perhaps too much of a good thing ? - but is otherwise well done.

But for a ‘hard-core’ railfan photo, I like the Analomink one - the old ties aren’t quite as noticeable, and the signal bridge prop as a ‘frame’ around the loco distracts the eye from them anyway, and really makes it an interesting composition.

Thanks again. Looking forward to more sometime . . . .[dinner]

Paul, you read my thoughts verbatim, though I don’t mind the ties in the Tobyhanna photo and find that particular photo, even with the heavy snow, to be the most exciting. Thank for your kind words! /Mitch
