Columbia Soup Reefer Question...

Hello one and all. Can someone out there tell me whether or not there was ever such a thing as a Columbia soup reefer?. The reason I ask is because I recently purchased one off of ebay and am now wondering if there was actually ever such a car… Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Don’t know, but Lionel (O), MTH (O), American Flyer (S), Roundhouse (HO), Atlas (O), K-Line (O) and USA Trains (G) all produced models.

…and the Columbia Conserve Company did exist in Indianapolis:

So far I haven’t come across any photos and my earliest equipment register is from the same year CKKX went out of business.

Good Luck, Ed

I find no CKKX reporting marks nor Columbia Soup in ORER’s from 1926, 1939 and 1947.

Checked 1901, 1903, 1905 - not found

I checked the historical reporting marks website and CKKX did exist in 1935 and belonged to the Columbia Conserve Co.

I’ve seen the car in HO but it was a 36’ and not a 40’ like mine. Oh well. I guess it’s all about having fun and not being prototypically correct…

One can do both–just remove the “freelance” cars whenever proto-icity is desired.
