Commuter Trains derail in LA

2 Commuter trains derailed out in LA this morning. Killing at least 4 and injuring hundreds of other people. They have pictures and it looks BAD.

Good luck to all of those involved.

Man!

The last thing we need, another wreck! The past 6 months seems to have been a nightmare of the rail industry as a whole when it comes to safety!

Ironic that in 2005 we still see these mishaps! Now the questions of course: Was it human error? Mechanical/electronic breakdowns? Nature? Or a combination of one or two? We’ll be getting plenty of info as the week continues.

My condolences to the victims’ families.

Not trying to sound cold or harsh, but realistically even if this wreck proves not to be Metrolink’s fault, the lawsuits are going to start flying through the roof! I’m just guessing but within 1/2 hour after the wreck was broadcast, a bunch of California attorneys started making plans!

A vehicle was reported to be on the tracks at a crossing causing the derailment.
This is just one of many cars or trucks that have caused a major accident accross the nation.

I just watched the news video, and they’re saying someone purpously left a Jeep Cherokee on the tracks at a crossing.
It’s up to 9 people dead.

Yeah, CNN is now reporting that someone deliberately parked on the track to derail one commuter train, which then hit a second commuter train and a parked UP train on adjacent tracks. That stupid [edited [V]] should now be facing multiple murder charges with no hope of parole, and perhaps even the death penalty.

10 dead

100+ injured

2 Metrolink trains and UP engien 4323

oh yeah… 1 Jeep Cherokee

the driver of the jeep is being charged with hommicide

It’s stupid things like this that further prohibit we who watch trains. The same thing has happened at airports. I guess it takes all kinds to make up a world. I feel for the families who have lost loved ones, and the injured.

ACK! Those look like Metrolink F59PHIs and a UP SD70M! How tragic… Oh I also feel very bad for the victims, too. 4 dead, 100+ injured…this is the last thing we need.

I heard about it on the radio a little while ago, and it sounds real sad. Does any one know how the trains were situated, like which train hit what? Or did the car ricochet off and hit the other two?

We had something similar happen over here a little while back - someone decided to commit suicide by parking his car across a main line used by HST sets running at around 100MPH. Result was he killed not only himself but also several train passengers and crew, destroyed a lot of stock and put a busy route out of action for weeks while repairs were made. I lean towards view of how selfish can one person be? To kill themselves is one thing, but to take a bunch of innocent bystanders with them is beyond outrageous - can’t in fact think of words to describe this that would be appropriate to the audience here!

I’ve not seen pictures of the LA crash yet, but it sounds like the locos and cars held up pretty well - I heard 9 people killed and 200 injured from BBC news, it could have been a lot worse given how heavily-used these trains are. If anything this should show how rail is a safe means of transport due to the strength of the vehicles used. Just my thoughts!

please see my earlier post for the numbers

total injured and dead is 193

He was trying to commit suicide. One witness reported seeing him run from the truck at the last second. He was on suicide watch from the night before because he kept stabbing himself but was treated.

What is it with people? Not a nice thing to say but to bad he jumped from his Jeep.
