Hello all.
I’ve just been messing about with some video clips and noticed 2 similar shots showing identical locos with identical decoders but one had a flat 8-ohm 1.25" speaker and the other had an 8-ohm 1.25" high bass speaker.
I hadn’t realised how different they sounded until I edited both clips together.

I know which one I prefer. What do you think?

I’m not a ‘sound’ man but I like bass speaker better.
Clip number 2, imho, was more impressive! Great sample, thank you for posting.
Jon-Thanks a bunch for posting this! (bass is better) I’ve been searching sound decoders on the Tube trying to get an idea of what to put in my Mikado. Could you post which decoders and speaker brands your using? (links?) I’ve got plenty of room in my tender so I want to use the best speaker I can get. (Too bad I can’t fit a JBL sub in there![:-^])

Try Tonys They have the QSI deep bass speaker you seek. Also try the Tsunami medium steam. That combo will give you great sound.

Even MORE important is the quality of the baffel behind the speaker.

I got mine from Litchfield Station.

I’m sure most of the other DCC suppliers (Tony’s etc) are also stocking high bass speakers now.
PS, my only link with Litchfield is as a satisfied customer, although Bruce does use one of my recent vids as an example of high bass speakers

I like the high bass better.
btw Beautiful work on the scenery,
IN AUDIO, the trick is the louder of the two will sound better (more bass, more highs).
IN MINIATURE (Modeling) generally one that 'moves the most air, and has the better ‘Baffle’ will prevail.
In STEAM TENDER’s, back waves are sealed, so ‘Bigger’ is better because it moves more air. HO size limits ones bass reponse below 500 hz. (A concert + 440hz) so there is no bass to manipulate - except any above 500 hz.
A ‘Bottle Cap’ baffle is even worse, cutting off 1 - 2 Octaves more.
