Thanks to everyone who commented and made suggestions on my posts. With that being said, attached is my completed trackplan after many revisions.

Those words: “1950’s Free Lanced Southern Midwest” have me thinking there won’t be any articulateds running. If that’s the case, then my concerns stated elsewhere about curve clearances are unwarranted.

MSM: I am glad you settled on a trackplan that will suit your desires.
Be aware… I have never built a layout that followed the plan completely. It seems that once track is going down, a better way will sometimes become obvious.

Since plans always change, I see an oppport unity to take the main and give it a double track appearance by running them parallel. Then do a Midwest style fly over. Any prairie skyscrapers going in, farm coop and such?

Interesting question about the track. I associated the layout with mountain scenery. My first reaction to Shane’s double-track idea was that it would impact the “mountain scenery” effect, if that’s the plan. Single tracks look so much longer than double tracks, that would diminish the grandeur of mountain scenery. On the other hand, there are so many tracks in the yard sections that it just begs for a lot of trains running at the same time… So yes, a double track for the mainline, with perhaps less curls, would probably be more in synch with the rest.

Can’t wait for the results. I hope this isn’t your 1st effort. Such an undertaking can take awhile and becoming overwhelming.
Yes, that trackwork+turntable is going to take a lot of work and resources… I would start with the mainline, and do the furthest yard tracks first, then gradually work my way towards the fascia. I find that getting trains running ASAP helps a lot from a morale perspective!
