computer dinosaur thread

I’ll start: Is there a place on here that has explanations of how to make things work? For example, how do I go back to the list of topics on this particular forum, after I’ve posted something, or even after I’ve just read a post?

Talk small please, I’m not that smart.[]

At the bottom of the last post you will see: Trains.com forums>>Trains Magazine forums>>Railroads

Click on Railroads to return to the forum.

Murph, looks like you either have to use the browser’s back arrow (upper left-hand corner of your screen) or the Jump window at the bottom of the thread (open the pull-down menu and scroll down to the Trains mag forum selection, click on it).

Oops, missed that option…

Thanks, guys! So far, so good.[:)]

Can someone explain how to send a private message? I’ve tried to PM people, but they don’t seem to go through?

It may be that nobody’s aware that you have yet. Have you tried to send one to me? I tried to send one to you, and discovered by clicking on the Private Messages link near the top of the forum thread list that I had created my own private “thread”, and that it had the option (which was of course disabled) to notify me when a response had been added. Go check yours out…

We used to be able to colorize things by putting a [red] before, and a [/red] after something we wished to be red, for example. Is there a way to do that now?

Brian-I tried to send you a PM. Did you get it ?

Brian- I think I found the PM area. Testing 1-2-3 etc… It says 6 views(?) That’s a private message?[:O][:)]

Murphy, when the reply window opens look just above the text box. See the drop down menu labeled “Color” or “Highlight” [;)]. Choose the color that you like and type away.

Alright! Now I get it! Is there a way to colorize something within a quote by someone else? I had tried to highlight something in the middle of a post by futuremodal. To be honest,I had dinked around with the color button for a while, but didn’t get it. I also did not want to have to ask one of the kids to show me how.[D)] Thanks for telling me how.[:)]

Yes, you drag your curser over it as if you are going to erase it and then select the color.

It works the same way using that B to make it bold, I for italics or U for underline.

Far out! Is there someplace on here that all these tricks are written down, or is this just something so simple that I should know this stuff already? Thanks

…If there is not a location to review all the “new” wrinkles to this forum and as Murphy said “maybe we should know it”…The but to that is, I believe it’s generational…Perhaps a 13 year old can sit down and “see” it immediately but us fellows a bit farther along than that this {something easy to see…is not seen}. Just my [2c].

Quentin…

That’s part of my problem. My 15 year old (and possibly my 10 and 8 year old) could probably just figure things out on their own. Dad, on the other hand, prefers to be able to read up on things-especially things strange to him.

On the old forum last week, the FAQ described how to do things. Perhaps the new FAQ here will be upgraded to tell us how things work.

If you click on the stars rating the threads, it tells you who voted and how.

Sorry I didn’t stay up late enough last night to continue this, but I checked the Private Messages section this morning and found it there. So Yes, I got it. When I get home later (I’m at work briefly), I’ll check and see if it sent me an e-mail notification that there was a private message waiting for me.

That’s because I kept accessing it to see if you had responded.

[(-D][(-D][(-D] You can tell I’m not a computer person. I did find out how to use the PM feature, and I’d like to thank those who helped me figure it out. I just thought it was ironic, that a “private message” would have a counter, to tell you how many times it had been viewed. Thanks again.
