Computer gurus: Please help technology challenged old guy posting photos.

I’m greatful to Bergie for explaining how, but I must be dense. How do I get a .jpg photo from my computer to the text in the post?

I’d like to share pictures, but can’t. At least, I figured out how to get the little picture in the corner of my posts, but I can’t get one in the body of the post.

I don’t know a URL from a cookie!

Step by step instructions would be appreciated.

Hi,

I’m not sure I can improve on what Bergie wrote, but here goes…

A “URL” is a web address, the thing that begins with “http://” ; it stands for Universal Resource Locator in computer geek lingo.

If you want to make your pictures appear in the text, you need to have them ‘published’ somewhere on a web server, like Railimages.com or Photobucket.com, so that you can type its web address and view it in your browser.

Once you are able to do that, just take the full web address from the “Address” box in your browser and paste it below your text. For example:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e182/CSX_road_slug/main_line_action/IronBelt_236_closeup.jpg

Try posting your text, then view it, and click on the link you just pasted in. If your photo appears, you’re almost there. Now go back and edit your post, and right before the pasted-in web address, type: [ IMG ] without any spaces (I put a few in there so it wouldn’t get “interpreted”); then just after the web address, type [ /IMG ] (also without the spaces):

[ IMG ]http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e182/CSX_road_slug/main_line_action/IronBelt_236_closeup.jpg[ /IMG ]

That will make your image display automatically:

Hope this helped…

I don’t know if i can help you anymore than ken already has but

you can start by clicking on this link

http://photobucket.com/

Then go toRegister now to open an account

http://photobucket.com/register.php?link=register_now

And follow the prompts to register

Once you’ve completed you’re account home page will display

and you will see a box labeled Browse

click on it and a small window will open showing your C drive

using this go to the file on your computer that has the photo you want to upload

double click on the photo and you’ll see the name of you picture in the small box

then click on upload

once the upload completes you’ll see a message “Upload competed”

if you page down you’ll see your photo on the page

there will be a small white box under it

place you mouse pointer on it and click

this will put a check mark in the box

Then page on down to the bottom of the page

and click on the box marked Generate HTML Code

this will automatically generate the code you need

on this page go down to the line of code that says

IMG images for message boards

high light the code by draging you mouse accross it

once the whole line is high lighted right click and click on copy

once you’ve copied that line Paste it into your message here

on the forum

When you are typing your post it will appear as

[IMG]http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/yada yada yada

but when you preview it the picture will appear

then go ahead and post it

There is no need to type anything else doing it this way

if you need more help

THANKS GUYS!

Here’s a picture of downtown Blackhawk on my layout.

I have another photo I want to show for forced perspective.

Congrat’s Garry, looks like you figured it out![tup]

(Nice job on that town BTW)

Thanks CSX and C&O… I like the orange units and the scene they are in.

Ok no excuses now we expect to see lots of photos in this weekends photo fun

Nice looking city scene by the way

Thanks, C&O… But I have an excuse this weekend… granddaughter’s birthday out of town…

I find it curious that some people who can and do post photos using Photobucket still haven’t realized that Photobucket already provides links with the IMG tags already included. There is no need to add them before and after the URL. Let the computer do the work!
