Computer Help

[soapbox] I am desperately in need of help regarding a Model Railroad Inventory Program and am hoping somebody out there can help me-the manufacturer of the program doesn’t want to be bothered and hasn’t answered any of my inquiries.

[banghead] The program in question is the “Quick Data Express Model RR Inventory System” by Tayden Design. System requirements are MS Windows 98 or higher (I have XP), 10 MB disc space (no problem), 64MB Ram (still no problem) and a decent moniter (also no problem) I have been entering all my locomotives and rolling stock but when I go to print the lists all I get is an error saying an error has occurred and to make sure my printer is set as default (it is) then to restart the program. Once this happens it’s just the same old crap all over again.

I am able to print a grand summary, or as they call it a “Statistics Report” which just gives me the number of entries and the total values I have entered, so I do not believe there is any type of error between the computer and the printer. I have no trouble printing anything else from anywhere on the net or in programs. But when I go to export the report to be printed, the little box where it’s supposed to appear is blank.

The data is there in the category as entered, I can call it up at will, I just can’t get it to print so I can supply my insurance company with the complete list of rolling stock.

[bow]If anyone out there has this system or has had this problem, HOW DID YOU OVERCOME IT? I have even tried to download to a floppy. The downlaod tells me it was successful but there’s nothing on the disk.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can off

I can’t help you with the program itself as I am not familiar with it.

From what you have said, I agree there is no problem between your computer and printer. If you can print from another application, and you have done that, so all should be fine there.

You say the program is for Windows 98 or higher. Does the company actually state that it is compatible with Windows XP though?

One thing you could try is setting the program compatibility for the inventory application to Windows 98. I’m not saying this will work but it’s worth trying.

Right click on the programs icon and choose properties. Click the compatibility tab. Check the box to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: and choose the operating system in the drop down box.

If that works great! If not, it’s probably the program itself that has an error and you have wasted your time entering data in it. Hopefully that is not the case.

Kevin

Oh boy computer stuff. I deal with this often at work. Sounds like the program and printer won’t play nice. Will the program allow you to access page setup? You usually access this from your tool bar when you click on File. I would suggest playing with the settings in page setup margins, paper type etc. I am not familiar with this program so I can’t give any specific instructions.Look for a tools or options menu within the program you may find some settings you can tweak.I would also try doing a search on Google for this program you might find something there.

Good luck,

Ed

I have this

I haven’t input all the data yet but have played with it it. Might be easier to replace the program. Free working download so you can try it
