Computer question, time for a new browser

Guess it is time for a new browser. I am using Explorer 7 and a lot of the sites I like to go to say they are going to stop supporting Explorer 7. Plus sometimes I cannot get this site to load, I think I have picked up a bug.

I did let the computer up date it self to Explorer 8 some time ago, but there where problems with up loading pictures to this site, so I went back to 7. Has this problem been fixed?

I heard good things about Fire Fox, what about Goggle Chrome?

So the choices are Explorer 8, Fire Fox and Goggle, am I missing other options?

I am running XP Pro, and besides this site I visit U-Tube and watch NBC on line and have a Photo Bucket account.

Thanks for the coming answers.

Ken,

If you have the hard drive space, you can actually install all three browsers on your computer and use them at your discretion. Although I primarily use (and highly prefer) Firefox, I also have IE8 for those occasion web sites that don’t load up well on Firefox. (Doesn’t happen very often.)

I tried Goggle Chrome early on but didn’t really like the interface very well. Guess I’m just really used to Firefox.

Firefox has worked well on this site for me since day one Ken…it’s lighweight and lightning fast compared to IE.

I’ll throw in another vote for Firefox. One of the good things about Firefox is that the website also has a variety of extensions. One particularly useful extension is called IETab, and allows you to open a page in Internet Explorer from within Firefox - it’s just another tab. And there’s a couple of world clock addins that come in useful as well.

Go with Firefox, Chrome and Safari, bad interface MHO

Ken, I’m using IE8 and the forum has been very slow for me lately. On my teaching site, it won’t even let me log in, so I have to use Google Chrome. I have Fire Fox as a back-up, but it works nicely. Both browsers will prompt you to migrate all your favourites from IE over to themselves.

Ken,

Get Firefox. I use Firefox 3.5.5 which works great for me. I am all over the internet on tons of random sites and they always load. The current version of Safari 4.0.4 is also good. I have Safari installed too but I never use it.

Yup, it looks like Firefox is pretty much it, though I like Opera except when I don’t.

It won’t make any difference with all of the FireFox users on here, but I use IE8 and have no problems with it whatsoever. I have never had a website not load or not work properly using IE6, 7 or 8. People like to bash Internet Explorer just because it’s Microsoft and it’s not “different,” but it’s actually in the top 2 for safety/security and is the most widely supported browser. Just my opinion, as I have never had a need for anything else.

I was using IE 8 up until about 2 months ago as I was experiencing slow load times, so I installed Firefox instead. What a difference! As stated above, it´s lightningfast and easy to use. I would be hard pressed to go back to IE.

I use Firefox, currently on 3.5.5, and prefer it to IE. It also seems faster for some sites, but I haven’t done any timing studies.

Enjoy

I am clearly in the minority here, I use IE8 and love it. Runs great on my PC. I like all the plug-ins that I have used to customize it to work the way I want. I tried FireFox and actually have it on this PC, but rarely click its icon. I have never had an issue with IE8 on this site, or any other that I frequent.

The good news of course is that none of them cost anything, so no harm in trying them all to see what you think.

I’m also using IE8. It works, and it’s what I’m used to.

It’s IE6 that sites are dropping support for, by the way. I never used IE7.

I’ve used IE7 and had no issues with it—or IE8 for that matter.

My 'pooters are using Firefox, Chrome, IE7-8 and Opera. Essentially there have been no issues with all of them----I’ll even run 3 or 4 at a time----no arguing either—

Firefox

Cuda Ken.

I have both IE and Firefox loaded on my Desktop (XP Pro) and on my Laptop (Vista Ultimate). In my opinion, you can’t go wrong with Firefox. On both computers it is faster than IE and I have NEVER had a problem with it. Just go with Firefox and enjoy it.

Blue Flamer.

I’ll throw in another vote for Firefox. I hated Internet Explorer the few times I’ve had to use it, and I’ve never taken the time to get used to Chrome.

At first I was hesitant to try Firefox but since I started using it about 2 or 3 years now I rarely ever use IE.

In the end it doesn’t really matter what other browser, or what other Operating System you use. Microsoft’s next release will copy all it’s best features…[:D]

I’m still using an old 256 meg computer running IE6 and have yet to have any problems browsing or viewing any sites !!! But I do have this feeling that one day soon, stuff just ain’t gonna work no more !
