computers on engines.

what does the computer do on the engines like operating wise and can you tell me more about them.

Ok, the computer is helping with the engine. It helps with wheelslip, it pretty much does stuff to the engine so it gets less abused. On the older units, like a SD45, if the second unit dies, you can try to lug it to a certain place, but now the new ones will all shut down so you dont ruin the engine sooner. Computers are really just things that give the engineer information on whats going on, like tractive effort, how much air you have, the fred code, all the things , most computers tell you.

Alec

on the computers what can they check. can you give me a list or pictures of screens that they can look at like gauges, rpm, etc?

Umm, ya i can do that.

Its a little dark, but here ya go.

So THAT’S what the onboard computer is for. [:D]

MY COMPUTER WONT LET ME DO TO MY MHZ. LIGHTNING GOT A HOLD OF IT.

hrmm helps out the new GE’s have a really good accelerometer display, just the way its setup good indepth information , Plus I like the ES44AC’s and DC’s becuase the conductors side has a screen…see what the hogger is up to. but the computers are nice but all it takes is a road foreman and a laptop and a serial port to pull the tapes to see how you ran…PRECISE!
