CON-COR HO SCALE passenger cars 72'

I found a 4 pack of these, unassembled,

the guy wants $72.00 for them.

Are these worth it? are they better/worse than Anthern?

Thanks

Kevin

Seems Walthers has them for $16 each + shipping

no interior it seems. can they be found? can you use an interior from another company?

are they worth it?

Kevin

What about model power, looks like Walthers has these too. these come with interiors. What kind of quality are these?

thanks

Kevin

I,m not familiar with the 72’ cars. I have 5 of the 85’ corrugated side coaches in NH colors that i bought because they were cheap and i liked the paint. The running gear is cheesy but works as is, but I won’t keep the trucks or horn hook couplers. My plan is to fit interiors and do some other reasonable detailing (there was a thread Antonio FP45 started here a while ago on the subject of detailing passenger cars) and have some fun. As for pricing, I paid 6.00 each for the first two in good used condition last November, and last week picked up three more at a train show new in boxes for 12.00 each. IHC and a couple of others make interiors. By the time I’m done, I’ll probably have spent as much or more than a nice Walthers or Branchline heavyweight, but I’ll have some fun modding them, and I haven’t found any better corrugated cars yet. (I’m ready for the onslaught of enlightenment on better later model New Haven Passenger cars - i need more). Hope this helped. J.R.

I have a set of the HO Con-Cor 72’ streamline cars and they seem pretty good. You have to add the Kadee #508 conversion kit but that’s about it. They will go around 18” curves all day and never derail.

Seems a little high on the price.Shop around a bit.Check ConCors website. They did have alot of these on sale.Stay away from Model Power unless looks are not an issue. They are very toylike. From what ive seen of the ConCor cars, they look nice but not worth $72 for 4.Hope this helps,Dan

Way too much.

Before you disprage Model Power you need to know which passenger cars you are talking about. They have some cars at least as good as Athearn and the 72’Concor. They are Budd prototypes, slightly shortened but certainly do not look toylike. They also have some Harriman style cars, which while short, look pretty good and can be used mixed in with other brands.

It’s like anything else. You buy what you like and that’s the bottom line. I have several Con-Cor cars as they were the only brand available in the road name I wanted at the time of purchase. Now, years later, the higher priced brands are coming out with some of the same road names but not all. One example, VIA smooth side Blue and Yellow. Con Cor had them years ago and I haven’t seen any other brands since. As to the idea of buying plain and painting and lettering, that’s ok if you have a place to do that but not everyone does.

Just my thoughts.

The model power pass cars I am looking at have full interiors and metal wheels. they are not kits and are mostlikely the 60’ versions.
are these the good versions or poor versions.

What is “Budd”?

I see that on walthers in their descriptions for the model power cars too.
Thanks

Kevin

Budd is the name of one of major passenger car manufacturers, the other major here being Pullman. Both made a wide variety of products and whole books are devoted to the subject. Hope that helps. J.R.

ok, thanks
