My N scale Con Cor J3A Hudson is a great looking locomotive, but it does not run very smoothly. I have cleaned my track many times with goo gone but with no change in the locomotives performance. My other locomotives run just fine on the layout. The Hudson came with a flywheel that was not installed originally but if I chose I could install myself. Will this help my locomotive? I have tried to clean the wheels with a wheel cleaning device/brush and goo gone but I am not sure I am getting them clean enough. Does anyone have any good tips to make my locomotve run smoother?

See if this link helps you. One of the later models may have a 5pole motor. You may need to check connections inside the loco. See that current is getting to the motor & work backwards from there. A contact may be broken. If this does not wor, feel free to ask at the Atlas forum. You may find more Nscale steamers thete to help.
I have two of the Con-Cor HO-scale MP15 switchers that they touted as being “DCC ready,” that are far from even being operable. They have the worst motors in them that I have ever seen – I think they are slot car motors. Con-Cor locomotives are trash, and I’ll never buy another. Their Route 66 vehicles, passenger cars, and other products are okay, but not their locomotives.
