I have an HO scale Con-Cor 72’ passenger car (Amtrak diner to be precise). It came already assembled (is not the ‘kit’ form). The trucks are held to the body by a screw which goes up through the center of the truck into a threaded insert inside the body. Somehow, the screw has come completely out and the truck has fallen off.
How do I get the body off to get at the threaded insert (which is now rattleing around inside the car)? It appears to have four prongs on the underside, but they are solidly attached. I also don’t know if releasing these tabs…if possible…releases the floor separate from the sides and roof, or if the roof comes off separate?
Any clues? I know some of the cars come as kits but I haven’t seen one first-hand to see how the body attaches.
Somebody did that to the car. All the ones I have the roof and windows are one piece and the tabs below the windows stick through slots in the floor. The trucks were pinned to the floor which I replaced with screws to the floor. I would guess somebody broke the tabs off and did that to hold the roof in. They are a tight fit.
I bought a Con Cor dome car on E bay recently for the purpose of repainting it. I asked on this Forum if anyone had any ideas on how to dis assemble it. (There were tabs on the bottom but they wouldn’t budge.) No luck there. So eventually I pried and pulled every which way. This car was glued tight. Now I have an extra set of tucks and wheels. The rest of the car was destroyed…tiny little pieces. I eventually bought a Rivarossi. Took it apart in about 10 seconds. Nice Algoma paint job now. So good luck to you.

Got it. The pins on the bottom press inward, then you push them through the floor and it releases the window glazing/roof as a unit. Missions accomplished without a scratch or nick on the car. The tabs are a bit bunged up but still snapped back into place tightly.
