concrete or small town gravel operation

Hello [:D]

I’m looking for ideas for a small town gravel, / feed store, /concrete, or ready mix plant. I’m not sure that read mix goes back to the early fiftys, and I don’t have room for a large plant. If anyone can help.

Thanks

Model Power has a very small footprint gravel grading tower (looks like a grain elevator) about 3 and a half inches square. They have an accessory kit that goes with it, a loading tower (3 track) that you might consider. Some of M.P.'s kits are toy like and some are quite nice. This one looks to be the latter. There is even a built up version for about $35 Their Globe News and Printing is a very nice kit for the money… but there’s an online Fla. dealer (maybe interntettrains.com)? that has a sale on the kits for around $15 if that helps you. I’m thinking of using one either as intended or as a grain elevator as I only have a very narrow space between industry tracks for one.

my little hick town had a ready-mix plant that was served off a siding on the old Wabash. they received cars of sand and gravel which were spotted over a dump pit and the material went up a portable conveyor to their storage silos or to piles on the ground. they moved the car around with a big front end loader to spot it where they wanted to unload it. reason for discontinuing rail service was the railroad saved the cars up until they had a bunch of them instead of spotting one every day or so with the local. that much at one time tended to overwhelm the small operation.

Hi Lee: This is a combination of Walthers O.L. King & sons coal yard and Interstate Fuel & Oil. My model is based on a small complex where I bought building supplies. They sold coal, gravel, sand, cement, plaster, animal feed, lumber, concrete blocks, brick, fuel oil and tools. They received supplies by rail.

Thanks Guys [tup]
This should get the old brain working. If you smell saw dust pay no attention I’m just thinking. Grampys looks like some thing I could do. I don’t have the elevated railroad but I should be able to work around that. I like the combination fuel and aggregate. It looks like a small town. Thanks again all.

Happy railroading. [:D]

I scratch built a little ready mix terminal out of some PVC pipe and some Evergreen stock.

Might be a little modern for your era, though…
