A few years ago I worked on the south side of Milwaukee, with the CP mainline going right past my office window. Because of this, I had contacted Bergie and we exchanged phone number so we could give each other a heads-up if anything interesting was heading his way.
Today, I just missed by 10 minutes seeing the CNW8701 go past my house; I almost caught it because Ed (WSORatSussex) posted an update on the train’s location, but I didn’t see his post in time…
All this got me to thinking: are there any northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin railfans that would like to exchange phone numbers? That way we could keep each other aware of interesting train movements.
Of course, the same could be done elsewhere–those of you in other locations could form your own little groups.
I have no aversion to giving out my phone number to my fellow forum members. If any of you are interested, please send me an email or private message.
Here is a great example of an idea to improve the website!
There must a way to “e” something like this. If there was a database of fans interested in networking, and you could get some sort of list based on whatever demographics matter - age, line, location, distance from location. Maybe start with folks within 50 miles, or between Chicago and Minneapolis, and then whittle the list down from there. Many people could become better informed and perhaps safer if you knew where to be even just a few minutes earlier.
Perhaps the WEBMASTER or some more savvy computer users have some ideas.
That is a good idea, but I can see the list of addresses/contact phone #s/whatever getting used by someone who doesn’t need to have it and or would do something inappropriate with the info. IMO its best left to PMs or folks in a local area.
We have PM here, and private e-mails. Anyone who wishes to get together or otherwise contact me can usually do it that way–if I’m interested, it will eventually migrate to my own e-mail address and/or phone number.
Oh, Larry: Froot Loops and a donut–I’m on vacation!
