Excellent. About time they got out of that shoebox. Next will be to have a station IN Charlotte instead of NEAR Charlotte.
If Texas Central Railway is ever completed, Houston will have a decent railway terminal once again that Amtrak will hopefully share.
Now almost every station in North Carolina has now been replaced or renovated in the past two decades except for Charlotte. It’s about time NCDOT build a new station for the largest city in the state, it will greatly improve ridership on the entire system. The current one is relatively inaccessible from Uptown without a car, in a terrible location, undersized, and horribly out of date. Gateway Station can’t come soon enough, Charlotte’s Amshack is an embarrassment to the city and the states rail service. The ironic thing is the new station will be built where the old, much grander Southern railroad station once was located.
Looking forward to Raleighs new station.
I agree with Alex. I took the Crescent out of the current station in the late 90’s. It is small and in an industrial part of town. What is needed is a more central station with connections to the light rail system. This has been talked about for the past 20 years when I attended architecture school in Charlotte.
