CONTACT EBAY/PAYPAL???

I’ve bought a number of O scale things from eBay sellers over the years, and although many sellers seem to be violently opposed to using PayPal, it does sometimes ease the sale–when it works! The problem I’ve had is when I changed my ISP from Juno to a Minnesota outfit, Sytekcom, a few years ago, I forgot to notify PayPal and make the change. After a flurry of confusing e-mails back and forth, I should have been able to make the change, but with PayPal, I got totally bollixed up. They made the change, but when I tried to make a purchase, they informed me that “This credit card is registered under another account (yeah, mine!). Please choose another credit card.”!!!

Since I have only one credit card (retired on disability, I was lucky my bank qualified me for a Visa Cash & Check Card), I was totally shut off from paying by credit card. I had to get Bank Money Orders and wait an extra week or ten days for my purchases to arrive. When my computer crashed, I started using a computer in the Senior Center’s computer lab, so I set up a Yahoo e-mail account to use from whatever computer available. Armed with a new e-mail address to use as a User Name, I went through the process of closing out the useless Sytekcom address/user name, but PayPal always puts up a box for you to “Choose another e-mail address,” which confused me greatly. I thought the thing was a bust until I ordered something from a non-eBay company’s site and somehow PayPal paid for it, via my Visa card!

They sent me a confirmation notice via Yahoo, and the next time I made an eBay purchase, the original password I’d typed in for the Yahoo address worked. However, when the bank changed us over to MasterCard debit cards, PayPal refused to recognize my Yahoo address/user name!! When I sent a reply to the confirmation

ANY business that refuses a home address should be viewed with suspicion, TRY, just try and contact microsoft in any way.

PayPal has both an email and telephone contact system. Perhaps you are overlooking the information. When you log in to your PayPal account, look at the bottom of the screen for “Contact Us”. Clicking on that will provide you both an “Help by Email” or “Help by Telephone” option. I trust that once you reach that page you’ll be able to select the option you’d like to use and follow the instructions.

Instead of turning this into another ANOTHER anti Paypal/Ebay thread, I’ll answer your questions.

I just recently changed, like you, to another yahoo e-mail, and also I changed the credit card that Paypal uses to charge items. I had no difficulty whatsoever, once logged in go to “profile”. It allows you to ADD or EDIT everthing concerning your account.

When you changed your ISP, regardless all you had to do was log in with your old e-mail addy and password. Once you are in your account, change your e-mail. You never would have to contact Paypal unless of course you forgot your old e-mail addy or pw.

I may be missing something but I don’t see what the problem is. I clearly see the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of the page. Call them, keep it simple, you need help accessing your account, once in your account, have them update your info. Here is the info on the contact us link:

Yahoo has a self service tool with utilties. If you are able to, “Wipe” the Senior Center computer clean of your activity when you are finished. That way the next person does not sit down, visit history and back track across your stuff.

All accounts can be edited as long as you still have your old email information. You should be able to get to any email from any computer anywhere.

The bank can set you up with a checking account for 100 dollars or whatever minimum and then tag onto it a bank card tied into the VISA system. That will keep all of your Ebay/Pay pal stuff AWAY from your own personal banking. It worked for me, just transferring the account down to 2.00 after every transaction protected me from any loss or damage.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago, with the exact same results you are having I finally emailed them and told them if they couldn’t or wouldn’t fix the problem I would cancel my account. That finally did the trick but it took a long time with many emails back and forth, it seemed like chimps where emailing me back. Good luck, you’ll need it.

That’s just the point, Don: I can’t log on because they immediately tell me to choose another e-mail address! The whole thing is stupid because my e-mail address/user name has been used by them to make several purchases and they sent me confirmations to that address that they don’t recognize. I bought a nifty new digital camera a couple of months ago, intending to sell a lot of HO “New Old Stock” left when I closed my hobby shop in the early '90s, but I don’t want to have to deal with personal checks when PayPal should be easier to use. It’s a pain in the gluteus maximus to have them freeze up my account again!

Sorry, GS, but like Don Z, you missed the point: I want to use PayPal, but they won’t let me log on! Contacting them by phone is terribly expensive, as I’m on Social Security Disability with only a limited income. I fail to understand why they sudd

Great, Mike, thanks! But what is their e-mail address? As I said, the only one I have is the one they used to send me a confirmation of the sale, and they say that one isn’t intended for replies, as no one monitors it! I had the same problem when I changed from a Juno address to the Yahoo address: I couldn’t log on and that’s the only way I know to contact them…

Dean-58,
This is the email address I used for contact with PayPal (2007) to solve a similar problem:

customercare@paypal.com

It worked for several back and forth messages
Good luck

Dean

The 888 phone number I supplied is a toll free number, it won’t cost you a dime.

GS

Thanks, CC! I just sent an e-mail to them, so maybe we can get things straightened out. I’ve bought quite a few items (would you believe four Atlas O scale bobber cabeese–and a pair of Thomas bobbers, plus a very rare Thomas single-dome tank car, all of which will go on display behind an all-original Thomas Consol) over several years. As I said above, I bought a really good digital camera for taking model photos–and to take photos of some HO “New Old Stock” cars I’d like to sell on eBay.

Thanks, GS; I’m getting a little befuddled in my old age and totally missed the 888 number you quoted in your first reply. The last time I tried to call them via the number they gave me, they quoted something outrageous, something like $3.75/minute, to talk to a human being. Previous experience with such calls tells me they can stretch out, since I sometimes have trouble getting my point across.

I’ve sent an e-mail to the address CC gave me, so maybe I’ll have luck making the necessary change of credit card coverage. I still can’t understand why my current e-mail address has quit working after two or three purchases via PayPal, plus that e-mail sale confirmation. Truth to tell, I didn’t read the thread about the new changes on eBay until last night, but it merely reinforces my desire to get my PayPal problem ironed out so I can become an eBay seller myself. I owned a combination used paperback exchange and HO model RR shop for eight years with only one bad check the entire time–and that was from a friend (turned out it was his bank’s fault, not his). I’d much rather go through PayPal for both purchases and sales and avoid the check/MO hassle.
