Portland? I thought the goal is to shorten transit times to the major distribution centers, not just the first possible port-of-call. How does Portland support that?

I assume this is in conjunction with Pan Am Southern - which is the NS/Pan Am team up. Assume NS will be on top of things.

Difficult to believe that PanAm-or whatever they are calling themselves this week-can come lose to matching the service provided by NS or CSX. One factor might be that the Portland Port is far less congested than Hampton Roads.

We read you the first time, Wallace.

They can call it PanAm but it is still Guilford. Those containers
better head south from Portland, north is just a jumble of very
bad track!

Ah, Portland Maine. I was stationed in New England twice In my Military career while serving in the Marines (1961-1981] ). Portland was always a favorite Railfan stop for me. My favorite was the Grand Trunks compact yard on the waterfront. GP-9s and RS-11s was the power. So much fun watching them switch the small yard and make up the daily road freight. Well its all gone now, too bad they would have been in a good position today for a container Port, just like the Milwaukee missed out in Tacoma, WA. with their strategic facilities on the waterfront.Another of my favorite place’s and Railroad now gone.
