control signage

In the attached photo, I’d guess that the “25” shown on the yellow diamond sign is a speed restriction, but what does the “7” on the extra tab designate?

SIGN

The next seven curves are all 25 MPH.

First of all…whos road is it for sure…im guessing csx becouse of the yellow dimond for the perminet speed restrcition…

Thanks guys. The sign in question is on Norfolk Southern’s New Castle District in Muncie In.

We don’t have anything like that on the UP (at least here in Texas), but I suspect it’s 25 for seven miles.

Snickers guffaws chorrtles and cries tears of mirth. Next 7 right hand curves or left hand curves? What about s curves do they count for one or two?

It’s nice to see Muncie’s gifted “artists” have added value to the signage…

If they’re going to paint something, why not paint the doggone bridges.

I take it I’ve amused you in some way. I take it that you think I’m guessing. I can only tell you that it means 25 MPH around the next seven curves.

No disrespct meant Valley I thought you were being silly was all. Never heard it like that as curves are posted in our timetable ( if speed restricted) I had NEVER heard that thats what that sign meant.

As we all know railroading signs and signals are all different to eachs road. I pass you a signal and you could take it to mean something I didnt send. Case in point right here. I apologize again for the smirks. But it just struck me funny and I needed a laugh

Is that an Arbey’s or Burger King cup below the sign?

It is a 16 oz soda cup from Family Express

Route_Rock, that’s ok, what applies to one railroad or, with today’s megasystems, even one portion of a railroad, doesn’t apply to another, and that would include hand signals and terminology. There are ETT restrictions posted, the company is not relying on signs alone.

A few years ago, NS went out and put place name signs all over the railroad, where we never had them before.

…A G…You got me on that one. I’ve never seen that bridge or maybe never have seen it from that angle and don’t recognize it.

Go to the (recycling center?) and look south at the bridge from the road crossing!

…Wow…That’s a good one. Like I mentioned…“from that angle”. Of course I know where it is and have seen it many times walking and biking on our nearby trail.

The different location of the photo creation threw me off to not recognize it.

…By the way, that “speed” sign is just about a quarter mile or so before one reaches the long sweeping curve that has been the scene of 3 derailments in the recent 2 or 3 years. Two of them were the Triple Crown trains…
