I own a LGB 2-4-0 From a starter set my mom bought me a long time ago. Is it possible to convert it to battery power? I have only one place in our yard to build in and taking a cord to It would be difficult almost every day.

I venture to say it would be no problem at all to convert your engine to Battery and/or Battery with RC control.

Tony has posted some installs for you to view to give you an idea of what is involved. My first RC conversion w/out batteries ran about $125 a few years back using the RCS-EVO and a 2 Stick RC (car) controler, with all ele in trail car using a Cordless Drill Battery and Charger.

Jimmy, I saw on the other thread regarding your track plans that you will use the battery operated New Bright and Scientific trains on LGB track. If that’s the case, then I honestly don’t see the need to convert your electric LGB loco to battery power because you can run all of your engines (wheather battery powered or electric) on the same track and layout. You see in my case it would be a different story because my layout is all plastic, New Bright track and I can’t run engines that are electric powered, I would have to convert them to battery power to do so. Anyway, do as you please.
The LGB 2-4-0 will not be the only engine in my fleet, I cannot afford to buy regular G scale trains on a regular basis. The Scientific/Newbrite would only stand in until more engines can be aquired then just be part of the display and used for occasonal runs with short trains and for when the younger kids come over. I also cannot run electricity to my furture track location so they NEED to run on battery.
Why is that?
Its going to be WWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY out in our yard. There are many obsticles: driveway, wall, some trees. Anywhey I won’t be running the train every day (and very little in the winter) so why spend all that time wiring it up if its just going to rust? I can just take the train out flip the switch to “on” and go. No running up to the house with 2 or so extension chords and then back out with a controller.
I see. So how many engines/train sets do you plan to have? Any stations or buildings?
