Converting my Proto2000 0-6-0 to Oil Burner?

Heya Guys and Gals.

Welp…I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I can go about getting the necessary parts to convert my little 0-6-0 switcher to an oil burner tender? (I am modeling C&NW in NW Nebraska, and they were all converted to Oil in the 20’s.)

I have tried contacting L.L. to see about purchasing their conversion kit, but they didn’t know what I was even talking about!

Should I try out L.L. again…and if so, does anyone have a good email address for them?

Thanks

Craig

If you can’t get a oil tender from LL, you might try other manufactures or you may be able to convert the tender you have.I did that with a IHC Mogul ,converting from oil to coal.A little sheet styrene and cal-scale details,Itshould not be too dificult

I’m looking at the instruction sheet that comes with the 0-6-0. It would appear that you want what they call “part D”. It’s the oil bunker for the tender plus a few stick on parts for the bunker. I’m not sure I’d call it a “conversion kit” as you did. Perhaps that wording confused them. Did you ask for “part D”?

You’ll also perhaps want to remove the ashpans from under the firebox and the ash hoppers that peek down below the frame. Both are items not used on oil fired engines. I asked on the Atlas forum once if anyone know how to disassemble the 0-6-0–never got a response. If you do go for this project and take the critter apart to do it, write and let us (me) know how to get inside.

I too want to do an oil conversion of this engine some day. My thought is to do either #19 or #20 of Northern Pacific Terminal Co. of Portland Oregon. I’ll be building the bunker though, because they’re pretty unusual looking.

Craig,

Email me offlist. I picked up a Frisco P2K 0-6-0 that’s got the oil tender, and I want the coal tender. Maybe we can work out a trade.

The P2K tenders are all the same; they’ve just got different coal space detail that snaps in and out. We won’t even have to send the whole engine or tender, just the parts we need.

Email on the way Ray
