Trade it for a ‘real locomotive’, CSR! Something with lead and trailing trucks. MEC 470 would be cool!

Mec 470

MEC 470, once rebuilt, already has commitments to run on two railroads in Maine. 7470 is strongly linked with CSRR, great that it is being rebuilt. Hopefully they’ll then run it more than a few days per year.

I am happy that Mass Bay RRE Sponsors the Steam in the Snow event. This years’ event had ice on the steam Engine and was quite a show.It was well below zero that morning as I recall. Seeing how things work at the CSRR, and the State of NH, I have doubts this will get finished in two years, much less 6 or 7. It will need a new boiler. While loved by many, Steam is a pain to run, and requires an extra day of work each time its used. This is why you do not see it much under power. I hope for the best… Be nice to see it double headed with the Baldwin 0-6-0 thats up in Gorham… Dreams… just dreams…

We at Mass Bay RRE are thrilled that 7470 will be rebuilt and will steam again. We’ve sponsored ‘Steam in the Snow’ for the past 7 years (something the News Wire article left out) and look forward to running that event in the future.

geez…the 7470 been doing her job since 1968…she deserve a rebuild.

My father, grandfather, and godfather all were B&M locomotive engineers who took me on their runs to North Conway in the cab of both Maine Central and B&M steam power on the Conway Branch. Many winter nights on the weekends were spent in the crew/bunk car adjacent to the enginehouse while “laying over” at North Conway. Kudos to Russ and Paul and the CSRR staff for preserving history.
