Coos Bay Rail Link to reopen line to port
Did they merely repair the in-place swing bridge, or did they bug-out and build an entry to the harbor that could be negotiated by the Captains and Pilots of the skill, talent and experience that bash the timbers of the bridge?
Is this the Oregon railroad so damaged by storms that it was stated as never being able to reopen?
No, this route has a lot of tunnels between Eugene and Coos Bay, some of which were in pretty bad shape and had been vandalized. CORP didn’t want the liability or to take on the costs for what is a low volume line.
Wonder to what standard this line is being built 25mph? Or…
Wow. Imaging how nice it would have been to see a picture of the train going over the old bridge.
The Oregon line so badly damaged by storms is owned by the Port of Tillamook. This line is owned by the Port of Coos Bay farther south on the Oregon coast and with a lot nicer harbor for ocean going vessels.
Reading about the damage and the war of words between CORP and Tillamook, I really thought the line would never reopen. Five years and millions of dollars later the impossible was overcome by some very determined townships, shippers and leadership.
