Copper--scratchbuilding with it

OK, many of you model with brass but I seriously doubt if there’s anyone who uses copper…or is there?

I have found a way to flatten and use large diameter copper pipes (used for plumbing and found in hardware stores). I use a propane torch when I do plumbing around the house but I intend to build some stuff for my trains as well, seeing that this is an inexpensive source.

Anyone use copper and if so, what flux and solder would you recommend? Also, does copper act differently than brass in any way?

Copper is more expensive than brass.

Copper can use an solder used for brass. Copper is a better electrical and thermal conductor. Brass is copper with 15 to 30% Zinc mixed in. Pure copper is not as strong as brass.

Dissimilar metals when they are joined have “rections”. I’m not sure in regards to copper since it is the base of brass…hmm…metalurgy where art thou!
