Copy and Paste Photo in Forum Posts?

How do I copy and paste a jpeg into a forum post?

Thanks, Hansel

Here’s a link to a thread on this subject.

From what I can tell from this thread it looks like you have to post your photos somewhere else and then link them. However I have noticed that some folks have embedded photos into their posts. I am missing something?

Hansel,

If you are talking about the pictures below a user name or at the bottom of a post, the same method is still used to post them. As you correctly surmised, you have to post them on another host server then link them from your post.

Yes. You canot embed a photo directly in your post. You must have a place where you can store the photo, such as photobucket. Then you put the link to the photo in your post. Trains.com does not have a place to store photos. It must be a third party.

What I do is use the storage provide by my internet service provider. Most ISP’s provide storage for their customers to create a personal website. That’s not to say that all ISP’s provide the storage.

IF you want to post a pic from another web site…

Right click the image on that website, and click on PROPERTIES…

Find the URL that is listed, and copy it…

In the message, type [ img ] (NO SPACES…this message won’t let me post the code) where you want the photo to go…and then paste that link…and at the end put [ /img ] (NO SPACES here, either)

WHALLA! You have posted a image from another site.

Phil

I and others use Photo Bucket for photos and videos.

This should probably be a sticky but most people do not read instructions or FAQs anyway.

As you have seen, there are severaal Hosts for digital pictures that you want to post on the Trains.com Forum - Thread of your choice. I use Photobucket. After setting up an Album name into which you upload pictures to Photobucket, You place your series of pictures as separate images in that Album. Below each picture, there are four Options. You click on the last one, which is labeled IMG. Momentarily, the word Copied will appear. This means that this image has been Copied to the Clipboard on your computer. You then go back to the Reply to the particular Thread that you want to add to. You type in any text that you desire, and then click on ctrl V The lengthy Code for your image will appear. Now click on Post (in the lower left corner) The text and picture will then be added to the end of the thread. It may take a few moments for the transfer to take place. You can always Edit the text and then Repost.

I find that after you “Copy” the img line, you need only to “Paste” it into your reply, a simple two-step procedure. It will appear as the line of img data while you’re composing, but show as an actual picture as soon as you “Post”.
