Copy online magazines to new iPad

I replaced my iPad 2 with the new iPad Air 2. The usual software transfer via restore from iTunes worked fine except…

The online Apps of Carstens and Zinio copied and the covers and subscription data of the editions are displayed to but the content is NOT copied. I have to download all subscribed magazines again. One by one. No bulk download.

I am not amused …

Blame Zinio? I’ve noticed that issues I haven’t looked at for a while need to be downlaoded again. No biggy, takes a few seconds. By US standards I have a pretty fast connection, but there are plenty fo palces that would laugh at me. Just looked now - I have all of 2012-2014 MR in digital, and every single one of the 2012 issues it is makign me download if I want to read them. Yet at one time they had been downloaded. Unless you bought the 128GB model, kind of better this way, if it downloaded and saved every issue forever you’d run out of storage rigth quick.

Hi Randy, yes I got the 128GB version. I am used to read the magazines during vacation at remote locations without Internet access or extreme slow access at extreme high cost. Thanks a lot for the warning of automatic erasure of long time not read issues. That would be a dirty trick on me:-(

Wow I have 3 years stored on 2 lap tops. Never lost a issue yet…

That’s why as part of my planning to go away where there won’t be internet access, or worthless internet access, I do things like check that I have sufficient reading material live on my tablet. Replaces the old task of trying to shove enough books in the suitcase to keep me occupied.

I rarely use the Zinio app on my desktop, so I have no idea what it does there. Maybe keeps a lot more since typically you have many times the storage.

That would explain why the oldest are deleted on a tablet. Could be a setting somewhere …

I was digging around and found a file with the cover images. Another file contains the PDFs but they are individual pages. This is how the pages are turned, each page has its own file unlike a typical pdf which is one long document.
