Correct trucks for 224?

Calling all prewar experts!

I’ve a lovely 224 steamer that came with postwar trucks under the tender. I’m pretty sure the engine is a prewar model because:

a) the cab numbers are not stamped, but litho’d on a separately applied metal plate,

b) the rear edge of the cab floor is straight, not convex.

Assuming it’s as old as I think it is, can anyone tell me what trucks would look appropriate under this tender? I have some trucks off a freight car, the ones with black journals and a solenoid-operated box coupler. Would those be right? And how would I mount collectors? Also what about a drawbar? I’m using a postwar drawbar on the tender, mounted above the truck, but I suspect that’s wrong. Would the original have ben mounted to the truck or to the frame of the tender?

Any insights much appreciated!

Which tender is it? It could be a 2689T, 2689W, 2689WX, 2224T, 2224W. It depends on the year of the loco, too. It sounds like a 1939-1941 model.

This is the 1938-1939 rear tender truck:

This is the 1940-1942 style truck:

This is the front truck for the 2689T/2689W/WX:

Wow, that’s service! [:)][wow]

Thanks for the pics!

I don’t have the tender in front of me, but I’m pretty sure it’s a 2224W. It’s a die-cast tender with whistle (whistle has a die cast echo chamber, too).

That 1940-1942 truck you picture looks just like what I have banging around in the junk box.

That is the 2224 style truck.

The one in the pic above is missing the shoe for the coupler coil. The front truck would match but have a pickup roller.

How was the drawbar attached? Riveted under the truck like in the 2689 pic, or some other way?

Thanks!

On the 2224T/2224W the drawbar is riveted, but I think between the truck & frame.
